RECRUITMENT DETAILS
Positions will be for up to 5.25 Hours / School Term. 2023-2024 School Year.
Immediate vacancy requires proficiency in Spanish.
Selection and Examination Process:
1. General Assessment Exam - measuring knowledge and skills in math, reading and writing principals - PRACTICE TEST:
2. Oral Panel - interview questions soliciting information relative to ones capacity, willingness and experience assisting in instruction, behavior management and student supervision.
Applicants will be ranked on the eligibility list on the basis of their aggregate score on the General Assessment and Oral Panel. The top 3 ranks of candidates willing to accept a position at the specified school, will be certified as eligible for hire and participate in a hiring interview with the school site principal.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
Positions in the Paraeducator-Classroom Assistant classification are established to assist certificated teachers in creating successful learning opportunities for students in regular classrooms. Incumbents perform their duties with initiative and independent judgment within standardized procedures as directed by the classroom teacher. Incumbents serve as assistants to the teacher. The full responsibility for appropriate instruction, training, instructional materials and evaluation procedures remains with the teacher.
  • Works with students in small groups and/or on an individual basis in regular classrooms to instruct, reinforce and follow up on learning activities.
  • Assists in the preparation, modification and implementation of lesson plans, instructional materials and learning aids as directed by the teacher, including scoring student reports and papers; and administering, monitoring and scoring a variety of tests (this does not include the administration of standardized assessment measures).
  • Observes students and assists in the supervision and modeling of appropriate student behavior through positive reinforcement techniques and implementation of a teacher designed behavior management system.
  • Confers with teachers concerning student progress and to determine programs, activities and materials to meet individual student needs.
  • Performs clerical support duties, such as preparing, typing and copying instructional materials; recording grades; preparing and maintaining student files, and records as necessary, including confidential records; and distributing and collecting paper, supplies and materials.
  • Operates and assists students in the operation of a variety of instructional aids, media, and computer terminals and software programs.
  • Provides support to the teacher by setting up work areas, displays and exhibits, operating VCR, movie, slide, film strip and overhead projectors and other audio-visual equipment; and maintaining cassettes, tapes, etc.
  • Participates in staff meetings and in-service training programs as assigned.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM ENTRANCE QUALIFICATIONS
Experience:
Any length of experience working with school age children.
Education:
Graduation from High School or GED required. Completion of at least two years of study (48 units) at an institution of higher education, or Associates or higher degree highly desirable.

  • Operate or learn to operate appropriate instructional media, materials, a computer terminal and use appropriate software.
  • Understand and carry out oral and written directions.
  • Read and comprehend instructional and related materials.
  • Maintain confidentiality of matters related to students.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted during the normal course of work.
  • Be flexible.

BENEFITS
MEDICAL/PRESCRIPTION INSURANCE: Employees holding regular/permanent positions at 27.5 or more hours per week shall be eligible to participate in a variety of District plans. Employee contribution amount towards a premium varies based on medical plan. Family coverage is also available with an additional employee monthly paid premium. NOTE: Employees with assignments fewer than 27.5 hours per week are eligible to participate / buy-in into medical plans at full cost.
DENTAL INSURANCE: Employees holding regular/permanent positions at 30.0 or more hours per week shall be eligible to participate in the District-paid coverage for family dental insurance.
VISION CARE INSURANCE: Employees holding regular/permanent positions at 30.0 or more hours per week shall be eligible to participate in the District-paid coverage for family vision insurance.
HOLIDAYS: Up to fourteen paid holidays per year.
LIFE INSURANCE: Employees holding regular/permanent positions at 30.0 or more hours per week shall be eligible to participate in the District-paid coverage for family life insurance.
VACATION: Employees with one to three years of service earn 12 vacation days per year (employees working less than 12 months shall earn vacation on a pro rata basis). The number of vacation days earned increases with longevity up to 20 days per year after 15 years of service.
SICK LEAVE: One day per month, cumulative from year to year (employees working less than 12 months shall earn sick leave on a pro rata basis).
RETIREMENT: Employees holding regular/permanent positions at 4 or more hours daily AND at least 20 hours weekly are covered by Public Employees Retirement System (PERS) and Social Security. Contributions are made by both the employee and employer. Click to visit website.

SALARY STEP MOVEMENT: First day of fiscal year (July 1st) for those employees in working status at least 75% of work year.
LONGEVITY COMPENSATION: Upon completion of 7, 10, 14, 20, 24, and 29 years of service from the hire date, employees receive an additional 2 1/2% salary increase.
REPRESENTATION: Classified staff (with the exception of Campus Safety Assistants) are represented by Chapter 620, CSEA.
