Job description

Paper Mill Machine Leader

ThePaper Mill Machine Leaderwill be based out of Macon, Georgia (1897 Allen Road, 31216). ThePaper Mill Machine Leaderwill be the machine and system expert on Papermill and Pulp Prep to the Reel. This is a permanent, full-time position.

Job Requirements:
Education:
  • Minimum: GED or High school Diploma
  • Preferred: 3-4 Years Paper Mill experience

Experience:
  • The Machine Leader will have the ultimate accountability over running the paper machine and developing the daily plan and giving his or her team members direction
  • The Machine Leader will direct other team members and lead them to standard, and push the optimization of the operation
  • Must be able to work with Operations Leader and other Machine Leaders to prioritize work and assign appropriate resources based on workload and schedule
  • Must be able to work with your downstream customers to optimize waste and paper quality
  • Run paper machine at target line speed to exceed daily budget
  • Centerline checks are to be completed every shift and logged into the data collection system
  • Daily rounds will be completed and all out of standard findings will be logged and brought back to standard if possible
  • Work with maintenance on equipment issues and optimization efforts
  • Work with E&I on equipment issues and optimization efforts
  • Work with Operations Leader on training plan with identified operators on skill development
  • Coach and train new employees on the line
  • Lead in all brand changes
  • Be able to run line to achieve established production and quality standards with a minimum of waste and delay
  • Must be self-motivated and a team player; must demonstrate a positive can do attitude and the ability to work with others in a professional manner
  • Must be able to communicate and interface with management in order to provide feedback, information, and status updates
  • Will and able to learn new systems/equipment and take on new challenges
  • Willing and able to train others and share knowledge
  • Willing to take part in improvement events

Key Responsibilities:
Safety
  • Must be safety conscious and able to communicate the commitment to working safely at all times to the team
  • Follow the department and site safe work practices
  • Follow the department and site safety rules and procedures
  • Follow the department and site PPE rules and procedures
  • Confront both positive and negative safety observations
  • Stay compliant with site safety training
  • Stay compliant with site safety hearing testing
  • Keep your work are clean to prevent fires
  • Keep work area clean to prevent slips and falls
  • Maintain an awareness of safety procedures and identify safety hazards and recommend safety improvements as needed

Quality
  • Ensure the team is adhering to the base sheet quality standards
  • Ensure the team is entering their quality data into quality windows
  • Ensure the team is logging their base sheet appearance ratings into quality windows
  • Ensure out of standard quality concerns are dealt with in a timely manner (see quality standards for further information)

Housekeeping
  • Follow department and site housekeeping standards
  • Follow department and the site 6S principals
  • All water and air hoses need to be coiled up and put away when not in use
  • All floor grates need to be kept in the trenches at all times
  • All ladders need to be put away in their proper location when not in use
  • All tools need to be put away when not in use
  • 2nd Hat
  • All Paper Mill employees will be required to have a 2nd hat such as the Confined Space Team, Fire Brigade, PERO

Meetings
  • All team members will relive each other 15 minutes early and have a shift exchange meeting
  • All team members will attend the one hour by weekly department meeting
  • All team members will attend the quarterly review meetings
  • All team members will be present at the 8:15 am Paper Mill control room meeting

  • Monitors product quality against set standards and records inspections via quality audits. Quickly detects process abnormalities and takes appropriate action to correct them.

  • Learns and becomes proficient in all aspects of their role and understands the impact of their role on the business.
  • Pursues continuous learning and knowledge transfer in current role, position above, and training & development of new team members.
  • Admits mistakes; demonstrates self-awareness; develops solutions.

Continuous Improvement
  • Performs duties according to established standard operating procedures. Suggests improvement as needed.
  • Records notable events during the shift and communicates them during shift exchange.
  • Identifies and communicates opportunities to reduce cost due to waste in established processes / procedures.
  • Uses performance measures to identify and prioritize production area losses; provides description of problems and can provide updates of process or line issues.
  • Is a good team member capable of working within a highly effective team or part of a cross-functional team: responsible, supportive, and reliable.
  • Has a strong sense of responsibility and good attention to detail. Communicates effectively.
  • Demonstrates willingness to adopt change and support the change management process.

Data Integrity
  • Shows commitment to maintaining the quality of all data interacted with.

  • Takes responsibility for the quality of data produced, entered into ICP's systems, and shared with others.
