We are looking to hire top talent to join our dynamic team! ND Paper offers full benefits and a competitive compensation. We are currently seeking an experienced Paper Machine Assistant Superintendent to join our team.
The successful candidate will have responsibility to assist in the management of Paper Machine operations and activities including safety. Establish and meet production department goals for costs, productivity, product quality, maintenance, asset improvement, housekeeping, training, and employee development.
The Paper Machine Assistant Superintendent will work under the direction of the General Paper Machine Superintendent. This is a full-time salaried position.
Job Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate safety as a core value and establish a safe work environment by actively leading the safe execution of work.
    • Own and execute the housekeeping improvement plan.
    • Work with the training coordinator to develop educational materials that increase operator knowledge.
    • Audit 360 process in your area.
    • Participate in area, mill, and enterprise initiatives for improving our safety performance.
  • Work with maintenance to execute repair plan for the equipment in your area.
  • Perform daily, weekly, and monthly rounds in your area to set new standards for precision operations.
  • Develop a list of process KPI's and hold the team accountable for achieving results consistent with best in class.
  • Produce and certify a product of the highest acceptable quality meeting all customer's specifications while minimizing cost through continuous improvement. Examples include - chemicals, materials, labor, energy, yield improvement, repair costs, etc.
  • Effectively work with suppliers and outside service groups to ensure highest levels of service and workmanship of the products and raw materials that we use.
  • Supervise all production and quality activities for the line when on call for the weekend.
  • Maintain harmonious relations with employees by administering contract provisions and company policies.
  • Assist in standard and budget setting for the annual and long-term plans.
  • Possess ambulatory capabilities to move freely about the mill, ascend and descend ladders, and tolerate temperature extremes.
  • Ability to work in a team-based environment.
  • Be available 24 hours by way of home or cellular phone during scheduled on-call weeks.
  • Work beyond normal work schedule as necessary to fulfill position responsibilities.

Required Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in paper science, chemistry, or engineering plus at least 5 years of experience in paper manufacturing operations such as an assistant production superintendent and at least 2 years of supervisory experience. Packaging and winding experience a plus!
