- Receives assignments from both work orders, and oral instruction and determines the best method of preparing surfaces to receive paint and ensures that the surface meets the standards for proper smoothness and cleanliness.
- Uses brushes, roller, and sprayer to apply paint, varnish, shellac, lacquer, enamel, and other materials to protect and/or decorate interior and exterior surfaces of buildings, structures, experimental facilities and equipment, as well as aerospace and related ground equipment such as rockets, positioning trailers, aerial platform trucks, instrument trailers, vans, launchers, etc.
- Mixes paints and other substances such as mineral spirits, epoxies and resins to achieve desired color, consistency and protective properties.
- Uses hand or mechanical caulking guns, putty and wood fillers to fill cracks before painting.
- Prepares stencils and or lettering equipment for the painting of signs, identification markings on structures, experimental items, and aerospace vehicles.
- Must meet all Core Job Specifications.
- Must have completed a recognized painter’s training program or technical school or have five years of experience as a journeyman painter.
