Job Description

MINERAL KING PUBLISHING, PAGE DESIGNER, SANGER, CALIF. (FRESNO COUNTY):

ABOUT US: Mineral King Publishing, Inc. (MKP) is an independently owned newspaper and printing company in California’s San Joaquin Valley, but specifically in Fresno and Tulare County. MKP prints its own newspapers, The Sun-Gazette and Mid Valley Times, which cover southeastern Fresno County and most of Tulare County, as well as printing other Valley publications from school handbooks to niche monthly newspapers.

MKP’s graphics department is currently made up of a production manager, a graphic designer, and a Page Designer.

DESCRIPTION: MKP runs a manual printing press with four-color capabilities on newsprint of various sizes and folds. The Graphics Department’s job is to create ads and layouts for some of these projects as well as our own products, ensure PDFs are prepared for the printing press for all print products, update logos, promotional items and other branding for the Mineral King Publishing and its products.

The Graphics Department works from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday but the Page Designer position can work remotely from their own laptop or use company computers at the Sanger office. Software will be provided by the company if the Page Designer does not already have access to it. The Page Designer’s job is primarily to layout newspaper and magazine products for commercial print accounts. Accounts vary from weekly newspapers to quarterly newsletters, and bilingual publications to business directories. Designers should be familiar with the use of typography, digital photo editing, CMYK, RGB and Pantone color systems, modular and layered design, and newspaper and magazine layouts.

EXPECTATIONS: It is expected that this person be a team player and be able to take instruction from others and step up when others are on leave. Other expectations are as follows:

· Must have a working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite products, specifically InDesign, Photoshop, Acrobat and Illustrator;

· Must have a working knowledge of Google and Microsoft Office products, such as Google/Word Docs, Sheets/Excel, Meet/Teams, Slides/Power Point, etc;

· Must be willing to take direction from leadership, supervisors and clients;

· Must be comfortable using PC work stations;

· Must be able to meet daily and weekly deadlines on a flexible schedule without constant supervision.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: A high school diploma or GED is required. Experience with Adobe Creative Suite products is required. Experience with the following is preferred:

· Preferred experience designing digital and print media products;

· Preferred experience creating digital and print media advertisements;

· Preferred experience in pagination combining text, graphics and photos.

JOB TYPE: Contractor

SALARY: $16.00 per hour

SCHEDULE:

• Work is project based and may result in days ranging from 4 to 8 hours.
• Work will vary from week to week and month to month.
• Most work will be for monthly, quarterly and annual publications.

WORK LOCATION:

• Remote work from home OR
• Occasional office work at MKP’s Printhouse, 740 N St., Sanger, CA 93657

Job Type: Contract

Pay: From $16.00 per hour

Expected hours: No less than 8 per week

Schedule:

• Monday to Friday
• Weekends as needed
