Bushel Boy Farms is looking for a General Laborer - Packhouse Technician for our indoor greenhouse in Owatonna, Minnesota.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Sorts and weighs tomatoes quickly and accurately by variety and grade to keep product moving through the packhouse.
  • Operates the sticker machine daily; sets up, tears down, cleans machine, and makes adjustments to maintain acceptable sticker placement and coverage.
  • Checks scale and calibration throughout shift to ensure accuracy.
  • Packages tomatoes while ensuring the proper number of tomatoes/clusters are packed.
  • Packs product into shipping containers and seals and labels properly.
  • Handles produce carefully to prevent bruising or damage to the product.
  • Performs production activities such as inspecting, sorting, packaging, weighing, and lifting produce.
  • Reports defective product or questionable conditions of the product to manager, supervisor, and team leader.
  • Maintains a clean work area and ensures equipment is clean and in good working condition. Cleans and sanitizes the packhouse at the end of the shift.
  • Identifies safety concerns and proactively communicates them to manager and supervisor.
  • Adheres to Bushel Boy Farms personal hygiene standards and follows all food safety, occupational health and safety, and operational policies and procedures.
  • Performs repetitive tasks at a consistent pace to meet productivity and quality expectations.
  • Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM EDUCATION & WORK REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred.
  • Previous experience working with produce or greenhouse/warehouse environment preferred.

  • Ability to identify color, normal depth perception, and ability to understand produce grade standards and maturity characteristics.
  • Displays initiative to work as a team member and as an individual.
  • Ability to understand and follow basic verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to perform basic visual quality inspections on products.
  • Ability to work extra hours, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Self-motivated with a strong work ethic.
  • Demonstrates respect and sensitivity for cultural differences.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Regularly stand and walk on a concrete surface for long periods of time (8+ hours).
  • Work in a greenhouse environment with variable and fluctuating temperatures or in the packhouse where temperatures may be between 54°F to 65°F.
  • Work on and around powered industrial equipment and background noise in a fast-paced environment.
  • Regularly perform repetitive motions including frequent bending, stooping, squatting, pushing, pulling of parts and part containers, pinching, gripping, and grasping.
  • Use hands or fingers to handle or feel.
  • Frequently lift and/or move up to 40 lbs (more than 40 lbs requires a team lift).
  • Potential exposure to bumblebees including possible (but rare) stings. Must be comfortable working around bees and not be allergic to bee stings.
