Job description

The position is for a Casual Call seasonal Pharmacy intern. The expectation is to be available to work most school breaks including summer, winter break, spring break etc. Expected hours will be 30 to 40 hours a week helping cover Monday through Saturday


Position Summary:


The Pharmacy Intern - Outpatient helps provide high quality pharmaceutical services that foster efficacious, safe and cost-effective medications for our patients. Pharmacy interns are responsible for medication distribution, including compounding, accurate prescription filling, entering prescription, patient and third-party information into the pharmacy software, immunizations and counseling with Pharmacist on duty oversight, counting, labeling medication bottles, and maintaining accurate inventory, performing clinical review, providing drug information for providers and nurses, and providing guidance and oversight for pharmacy technicians under a Pharmacist on duty. In addition, Intern may be asked to perform other projects and duties, primarily pharmacy technician duties as required. Duties fall into task categories that do not require pharmaceutical judgement, serve as supportive personnel.


Minimum Qualifications:


+ Montana Licensure (Pharmacy Intern)


+ Currently enrolled in an accredited School of Pharmacy


+ American Heart Association BLS required


+ Immunization Certification


+ Preferred: 1 year of Pharmacy Technician experience


Essential Job Functions:


+ Demonstrates knowledge of EPIC, Outpatient Pharmacy Software, MPDR, Lexi-Comp, and other required software. Demonstrates knowledge and judgement to meet patient medication needs as defined by the provider. Maintains competency and demonstrates knowledge of clinical pharmacy protocols. Interacts with providers and nurses in a professional collaborative manner. Provides accurate and relevant drug information per current standards. Adheres to relevant Bozeman Health policies, procedures and guidelines.


+ Assist Pharmacist with all aspects of Bozeman Health medication distribution: Greeting patients, Data Entry, Filling, receiving payment, etc.


+ Promptly answering the telephone and providing excellent customer service.


+ Maintain accurate and adequate drug inventories and supplies to meet dispensing needs. Assist in maintaining perpetual drug inventory including controlled substances. Competent in medication ordering and generating reports.


+ Follow established policies and procedures. Attend staff meetings as required.


+ Constantly monitors workflow and pharmacy needs for efficient operation. Be able to perform all functions of the pharmacy as needed to provide exceptional customer service.


+ Provides drug information to providers, nurses and other ancillary personnel under a Pharmacist supervision. Actively contributes to medication safety and quality initiatives. Reports adverse events and good catches to the Pharmacist on duty with all details needed to report on Verge. Identifies areas of improvement and updates for patient care based on national guidelines. Contributes and participates in pharmacy education among peers and students.


+ Maintains optimal pharmacy practice through planned and continuous growth and development. Seeks new learning experiences. Contributes and participates in pharmacy education. Assumes projects as assigned.
