Position Summary
Under the direction of the Head Pool Manager and/or Aquatic Program Coordinator, plan, direct and supervise employees at an assigned City swimming facility; maintain facility according to State, City and department regulations; assist in public relations, budget preparations and programming.
This is a safety sensitive position subject to random drug/alcohol testing.
This is an unclassified at-will position.

Minimum Education, Experience And Additional Requirements
Education and experience directly related to the requirements below may be interchangeable on a year for year basis
High school diploma or GED plus;
Twelve (12) seasons (summer, spring, fall and/or winter) of aquatics program experience; and
To include:One (1) year of aquatic administrative responsibility.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Possession of a valid New Mexico Driver's License, or the ability to obtain by date of hire.
Possession of a City Operator's Permit (COP) within 6 months from date of hire.
Possession of a valid CPR, First Aid and Lifeguard certificate.
Possession of a valid Cash Handling certification from the City of Albuquerque within six (6) months from date of hire.
Possession of a valid Certified Pool Operator's certificate within six (6) months from date of hire.
Possession of a valid CPR, First Aid and Lifeguard Instructor's certificate within six (6) months from date of hire.
Preferred Knowledge
  • Basic operations, services and activities of an aquatics program
  • Principles and practices of aquatics program development and implementation
  • Principles and practices of pool operation and maintenance including proper water chemistry levels
  • Principles of supervision, training and performance evaluations
  • Principles and procedures of water safety, first aid, lifeguarding and CPR
  • Pertinent Federal, State, and local laws, codes and regulations
  • Basic knowledge of cash handling principles and procedures

Preferred Skills & Abilities
  • Recommend and implement goals and objectives for providing aquatics services
  • Oversee the operation and maintenance of an assigned pool
  • Interpret and explain City policies and procedures
  • Maintain appropriate water chemistry and chlorine levels
  • Coordinate and implement swimming lessons
  • Select, train and evaluate qualified swimming instructors, lifeguard staff and office workers
  • Communicate clearly and concisely
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work including the general public
  • Perform the essential duties of the job with or without reasonable accommodations
