Overview:
We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Orthodontic Assistant to join our team. I need someone that can show up to work, care about the results they deliver, and talk to patients well. I do not require that you know anything about orthodontics specifically, but I care greatly about your work ethic and your attention to detail.
Responsibilities:
- Assist the orthodontist during dental procedures, including orthodontic adjustments, appliance placement, and removal
- Prepare treatment rooms and sterilize instruments
- Take and develop dental x-rays
- Perform preliminary patient assessments, including taking vital signs and documenting medical history
- Educate patients on proper oral hygiene techniques and post-treatment care
- Maintain accurate patient records using electronic medical record systems - orthotrac
- Provide chairside assistance during procedures, anticipating the orthodontist's needs
- Assist with dental receptionist duties as needed, including scheduling appointments and managing patient records
- Collaborate with the orthodontist and other team members to ensure efficient workflow and exceptional patient experience
Preferred Skills and Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Completion of an accredited dental assisting program is a plus, EDDA is even better
- Current certification in dental assisting
- Knowledge of orthodontic procedures and terminology
- Proficiency in dental software for recordkeeping and scheduling
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Strong attention to detail and ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to work well in a team setting and collaborate effectively with colleagues
- Familiarity with medical coding and insurance billing is a plus
- Experience with pediatric patients is preferred
