Amentum is a trusted partner to United States government agencies, allied governments, and corporations worldwide supporting critical programs across a broad range of domains. Amentum is currently looking for an Optics Engineering Intern to support optical systems development including: microscopy design and implementation, test setup and procedures for characterizing fiber optic components and Photonic Integrated Circuits, and developing free space Quantum Optics systems for multiple programs. The position will support NSWC, Crane's Trusted Microelectronics Division and their various Navy and Air Force customers.
Duties may include:

  • Assist with custom laser scanning microscope maintenance
  • Assist with development and implementation of custom laser scanning microscope upgrades
  • Assist with research and development of new microscopy modalities
  • Perform standard Failure Analysis operations such as laser voltage probing
  • Assist with the development of quantum optics systems
  • Assist with the development, test, and characterization methodologies for Photonic devices such as fiber optic components and Photonic Integrated Circuits (PIC)

Minimum Requirements:
  • Must be enrolled and working toward a Bachelor's degree in Optics or Physics w/optics coursework
  • Completed at least 2 years towards degree with a minimum GPA of 3.0
  • Knowledge of optical design, implementation, and alignment principles
  • Knowledge of optical and photonic testing methodologies
  • Knowledge of Labview, python or similar
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Motivated and creative with the ability to work effectively across several different functional areas in a collaborative environment
  • Well organized and able to handle multiple projects
  • Ability to be a team player and receive mentoring from senior engineers and leadership
  • Aptitude for solving technical problems and creating customer solutions
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD Security Clearance (Please note: US Citizenship is required to obtain a US clearance)
  • **Must have at least an Interim Secret Clearance prior to start**
