General Summary
The primary role of the Optician is helping customers find eyeglasses and contact lenses that are the best match for each patient while providing the highest levels of quality andcare.
Essential Functions
Determines the reason for the patients' visit and identifies lifestyle needs and delivers recommendation to patients for eyewear needs following the prescription given by their optometrist
Attracts and retain customers by delivering exceptional customer service, foster customer retention, and promotes outstanding patient satisfaction.
Assists customers in the selection of frames and coordinates frames with optical measurements and prescription
Recommends specific lenses, lens coatings and frames to suit customer needs, occupation, habits, and facial features
Taking measurements, assisting patients with adjustments and/or troubleshooting and dispensing eyewear.
Ensures correct pricing and realistic delivery time quotes to patients
Ability to provide enthusiastic and concise communication to meet and exceed patient expectations as well as foster positive relationship with team members
Clean and merchandise displays daily, displaying effective merchandise at all times
Assist with insurance billing and processing orders
Documents all patient communication in patient record within practice software system
Works on special projects,cross trains in different departments, and perform other related duties assigned or requested.
Job Specifications
Typically has the following skills or abilities:
One to two years of experience in related field
If Required by State: Applicable State licensure or certification by a nationally-recognized optician association as an optician
Working knowledge of MS Office package
Demonstrated ability to successfully perform multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
Effective verbal communication skills to prioritize multiple tasks and to be available for incoming calls and inquires
Effective written communication skills to clearly document customer situations, as well as prepare letters to confirm agreements made
Excellent interpersonal and rapport building skills
Ability to ask appropriate and relevant questions to identify customer needs
Proven problem solving, negotiations, and decision-making skills
Ability to use appropriate discretion and judgment in applying customer/call handling guidelines
Ability to listen, process transactions and interact with customers simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
Working ConditionsThe working environment is generally favorable. Lighting and temperature are adequate, and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust etc.
