Job Title: Optical Department Manager

Status/FSLA: Full-Time/Non-Exempt
Purpose/Job Summary:
This role is responsible for managing the overall performance of the Optical Department,
including all staffing functions, day-to-day operations and achieving the sales and service
goals. This is a privately-owned operation with a focus on educating the patient and
fulfilling their optical needs. We stress teamwork and are seeking a manager with
experience and knowledge of all aspects of the optical process.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Increasing optical profits by exploring the current frame selection and lens
options
2. Making better buying decisions to maximize managed vision care
3. Implementing frame board management
4. Pricing/selling strategy
5. Managing inventory
6. Responsible for delivering and sustaining an exceptional customer experience
7. Explores effective ways to grow the practice and increase profitability
8. Help resolve any patient issues timely to ensure exceptional customer
experience
9. Responsible for managing, coaching and developing the optical staff
10.Identify and provide motivation, training and coaching to individual optical
staff members as needed
11.Create and implement procedures relating to processes within the optical area
12.Maintain office policies, inventory management and expense controls
13.Maintain and adhere to training manuals and SOP protocols
14.Develop staff work schedules and maintain staffing budgeted levels
15.Assist in setting KPI and production goals for the optical KPIs. Track and
report and meet regularly with practice managers to discuss performance and
opportunities.
16.Perform additional duties as requested by management
Required Credentials:
- -ABO Certified
Skills and Qualifications:
1. College degree preferred
2. Minimum 3-5 year management experience preferred
3. Minimum 3-5 year optician experience preferred
4. Professionalism and effective oral and written communication skills a must
5. Strong computer skills

Work is indoors in an office environment with moderate noise. Requires high attention to detail and deadlines on a continuous basis. Intermittent physical effort involving lifting of 20 pounds or less is required. A typical workday involves frequent sitting, talking and hearing, approximately 70% of the time, along with frequent use of a keyboard and reaching with hands and arms. Approximately 30% or less of the time is spent standing and walking. Normal vision abilities required, including close vision and ability to adjust focus.
