Specific Responsibilities:
Responsible for the coordination and delivery of strategies, interventions and activities for the Florida Department of Health in Palm Beach County, Tobacco Prevention Program.

  • Promote individual and community health to prevent tobacco use by encouraging and motivating agencies and organizations to work together toward a common vision of a tobacco-free Florida.
  • Responsible for promoting and encouraging healthy lifestyles; supporting the development and implementation of policy and environmental changes that will impact the tobacco prevention movement in the county and state and forging partnerships that will impact specific target groups and organizations.
  • Perform administrative and programmatic assignments with minimal supervision. Works closely with the tobacco Prevention Specialist on the coordination, implementation, and evaluation of all activities and events as the outlined in the Bureau of Tobacco Free Florida Work Plan, including but not limited to strategies to address building and sustaining the Tobacco-Free Partnership, worksite wellness, multi-unit dwellings and Students Working Against Tobacco (SWAT).
  • Assists the SWAT Program Coordinator with recruiting SWAT club advisors and with coordinating SWAT Club activities, events in the community settings, community presentations, and health fairs.
  • Confers with the Tobacco Prevention Specialist to complete and submit the quarterly reports in the Automated Tobacco Activity Collection System (ATACS), special reports, end of the year reports, and other requests for information.
  • Provides training when appropriated in effective tobacco prevention and control strategies to the youth, adult volunteers, partnership members, and the community.
  • Attends Tobacco-Free Partnership meetings and assists the Tobacco Prevention Specialist with coordinating the partnership meetings.
  • Coordinates and participates in targeted health fairs for targeted organizations, business, and worksites.
  • Assists with the planning, set up and breakdown, implementations, and evaluation for all community events and health fairs.
  • Participates on conference calls, webinars, and trainings to enhance knowledge and skills identified in the Tobacco Prevention Program Work Plan.
  • Prepares presentations, facilitates, attends regularly scheduled meetings and/or workshops with key Tobacco Program staff to discuss progress, success, and opportunities for improvement.
  • This position travel in the county to provide tobacco prevention related services and tobacco prevention events.
  • May be required to work before, during and/or beyond normal work hour or days in the event of an emergency. Emergency duty required of the incumbent includes working in special needs or performing other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to or threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster, man-made or natural.
