Your Specific Responsibilities: 

This is a professional position in which the employee performs a variety of technical and skilled duties primarily conducting inspections various programs, as specified in the rules of the Florida Department of Health and other state and local rules, regulations and ordinances.  This position is located in Columbia County, and also serves Hamilton County.  The employee must be able to keep accurate and timely records.  The employee must also be able to perform field work requiring moderate physical effort in varied weather conditions both independently and in a team environment.  Other duties may be assigned by the supervisor as needed to meet public health needs in the community.  An automobile is required in the performances in the duties of this position.      

Performs aerobic treatment unit system routine inspections for the Onsite Sewage Treatment and Disposal Program.  Coordinates with other staff, initiates enforcement, and any other aspects of this program as required by state law or administrative code.  Inputs inspection data into Rehost daily as field work is completed. The employee educates homeowners of sanitation and health regulations.

Performs rabies investigations for Columbia and Hamilton Counties as directed by the Environmental Health Director.

Inspects mobile home parks as required by Chapter 64E-15, F.A.C. for preliminary and continued compliance and safety.  Advises and educated clients of needed corrections and codes pertaining to program operation.  Completes reports and necessary correspondence in an accurate and timely manner.  Provides inspections of facilities for timely submission to State Health Office.

Conducts drinking water investigations and limited use water system inspections under the direction of the Environmental Manager.  Collects required water samples.  Completes required paperwork for lab submissions and maintains necessary files for investigation. 

Investigates sanitary nuisance complaints, prepares enforcement letters, and initiates enforcement if necessary.     

Performs other duties as required or assigned to maintain ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH programs in the department. 

 

Performs other emergency duties when required.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:  

Computer skills:  Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel.  Ability to communicate in oral or written fashion.  Must possess a current valid Florida driver's license.  Must be able to lift 60 lbs.  Must be willing to work outside all day if needed.
