Job description

The expected starting salary range for this position is $42,717.48 - $49,000.00 annually.
LeeTran is pleased to announce an exciting opportunity for a Transit Operations Supervisor. This position is responsible for supervising and leading Transit Bus Operators by ensuring that bus routes within Lee County are navigated safely by assigned LeeTran staff, while keeping in mind on-time performance and overall efficiency. Responsibilities include supervisory duties in both paratransit and fixed route operations.
  • Coordinates the scheduling of Bus Operators and fleet to ensure efficient operations of daily bus routes
  • Dispatches LeeTran Bus Operators via two-way radio; makes recommendations and notifies staff of operational updates such as route changes, due to road closures or major construction projects
  • Responds to service-related accidents and incidents, completes accident reports, and responds to customer feedback as required
  • Monitors and assists Bus Operators in the field to provide professional and developmental training
  • Participates in the interview process and provides hiring recommendations
  • Administers ongoing employee performance evaluations
  • Ensures adherence to LeeTran and Lee County Policies & Procedures, and federal and state regulations while providing developmental coaching and counseling to Bus Operators where necessary
  • Monitors onboard video surveillance and vehicle tracking software and retrieves and archives video when necessary
  • Assists with monitoring and enforcing the safety and security of all routes and transit facilities
  • Provides assistance with reservations and scheduling duties utilizing scheduling software
  • Provides transportation assistance when necessary
  • Completes forms, prepares records, assists with electronic filing, and other administrative duties
  • Coordinates with local and regional agencies and responds to potential emergency situations. May serve as staff a representative to Emergency Operations Center in the event of a declared emergency.
  • Responsible for compliance with Lee County's Drug Free Workplace policy and DOT regulation 49 CFR Part 40 and/or 655, including making Reasonable Suspicion and Post Accident Testing decisions.
  • Performs other related work as assigned
  • Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to an Associate's Degree or specialized course/training equivalent to the satisfactory completion of two years of college in a closely related field and two years of passenger bus operation with some supervisory experience or closely related experience.
  • Possession of a valid Class A or B CDL with no Air Brake restriction and Passenger Endorsement OR a valid Class A or B CDL Permit with no Air Brake restriction and Passenger Endorsement prior to offer. Must obtain a Florida CDL Class B License with Passenger Endorsement and no Air Brake restriction within 90 days of hire date. (Training and testing provided by LeeTran staff.)
  • Transit Supervisors must be able to pass a Florida Department of Transportation medical examination and maintain a current medical card.
  • This is a safety-sensitive position, which is subject to drug and alcohol workplace testing as outlined in DOT regulation 49 CFR-Parts 40 and/or 655
  • Will be required to undergo a fingerprint based background check in addition to the standard Consumer Report based background check that is required for all conditional offers of employment.
  • Experience in transit operations including dispatch and one-year prior supervisory experience preferred
  • Strong communication skills required with the ability to provide information and instruction verbally and in writing
  • Ability to fluctuate between paratransit and fixed route operations
  • Ability to perform light physical work including the installation of signage and lifting equipment and supplies up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with the general public and other County personnel
  • Ability to drive buses and other types of county vehicles at night and in various weather conditions
  • Ability to load and unload wheelchair passengers and secure mobility devices inside buses and other County vehicles
  • Ability to utilize and troubleshoot onboard technology, including mobile data tablets and GPS
  • Knowledge of FAC 14-90 and federal and state regulations regarding transportation to include compliance with ADA requirements
  • Strong computer skills and ability to use general office equipment
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and initiative in daily activities
  • Compassionate demeanor with the ability to work in a sensitive manner with passengers with various disabilities
  • LeeTran operates seven days a week, including some holidays. Normal hours of operation are 3:00 a.m. - 11:00 p.m., with extended hours during seasonal service. Days and hours of work will vary across all hours of operation. Must have the ability to work weekends. Must be able to work during emergencies as an essential employee.
