Job Description
OBJECTIVE:
Obtain a full understanding of methods and structure for the business units and operating teams. Use that understanding to fulfill these functions:
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (other duties as assigned)
- Manage an efficient, cost-effective pig flow.
- Lead day to day swine production teams to include nursery, finish, marketing, and maintenance. Build a cohesive and productive environment between teams and team members.
- Efficiently manage the receiving of weaned pigs by the production team.
- Build and maintain high performance flow and strong biosecurity standards.
- Lead marketing team’s efforts to fulfill packer obligations regarding quantity, weight and attribute.
- Manage the logistics and scheduling of trucking needs between entities.
- Maintain contract grower relations.
- Oversee facility maintenance, repair, remodeling and construction.
- Manage groundskeeping and snow removal.
- Cross train team members to maintain an effective workload and efficient use of available labor.
Supervisory Duties:
Will oversee the nursery, finish, marketing, and maintenance teams.
POSITION SPECIFICATIONS
Education:
Two+ year post-secondary degree in business, ag business, or related field preferred.
Experience:
Three to five years’ experience in fields related to: livestock production, operations management, ag business or related field.
Work Environment:
- Agricultural swine environment in rural area
- Noise levels that require hearing protection in some areas
- Will occasionally be exposed to adverse weather conditions
Physical Requirements:
- Stand, walk and be on feet 8 to 10 hours per day.
- Frequently bend, reach, squat and kneel.
- Frequently use one or both hands/arms to grasp or pull.
- Frequently lift objects weighing 3 to 40 pounds.
- Occasional bend while pulling and/or lifting objects weighing up to 40 pounds.
- Interacting with computers to enter information into database.
Other requirements:
Must have valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to get to work and attend meetings.
Class A CDL preferred.
