Position Summary
- Plan, develop, organize, implement, and manage the day-to-day operations and assigned personnel of the District's Transportation Department; assist the Director, Transportation Services with the administration of transportation planning, scheduling, operations, safety regulations, and School Bus Driver and support staff training; responsible for the overall supervision of School Bus Drivers, dispatchers, and line supervisors.
- Work hours vary from 6:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. This position is subject to being on-call.
Minimum Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Two years of supervisory or lead experience in a pupil transportation service organization.
- Current clear and valid Commercial Driver's License. Class B with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) - required.
- Currently possess and maintain an Illinois School Bus Permit - required.
- Pupil transportation operations, planning, scheduling, and safety regulations.
- Illinois Motor Vehicle Code and the Education Code applicable to the operation of vehicles in the transporting of students.
- Principles of Bus Driver training and safe driving practices.
- Principles of efficient and economical bus routing techniques and scheduling of employees.
- Rules and regulations affecting School District Transportation Department.
- Geographic and topographic characteristics of community served by the District.
- Computerized routine systems and their applications.
- Principles and practices of supervision and training.
- Interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy.
- Budget preparation and control.
- Principles and practices of administration, supervision, and training.
- Applicable laws, codes, regulations, policies and procedures.
- Interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy.
- Operation of a computer and assigned software.
- Knowledge of management and supervisory concepts.
- Excellent organizational, oral, and written communications of complex materials.
- Skilled in Microsoft Office programs, Telematics GPS data, various camera software and other technology applications.
- Strong problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage priorities and workloads.

- Prepare and maintain a variety of records, reports and files related to assigned activities and personnel.
- Respond to emergency field calls as needed.
- Construct schedules for field trips and/or special events.
- Drives a School Bus route / field trips as needed.
- Crossing guard duty as needed.
- Communicates with the Director of Transportation and specific Bus Drivers in regard to day-to-day operations.
- Ability to work well with others including transportation / grounds staff.
- Utilize Transfinder or similar routing programs, Google Docs, and District email, Zonar, Seon (or similar) Bus Camera Systems
- Ability to safely lift 50+ pounds without injuring yourself.
- Keep informed regarding changes in law and training techniques through reading and participating in meetings, seminars, conferences, and available training.
- Ensures that the district transportation department meet or exceed Federal and State Safety Standards.
- In event of emergency, expected to stay and help where needed.
- Performs other tasks and assumes other such responsibilities that may be assigned by the Director of Transportation.
Ability To
- Plan, manage and implement an efficient student transportation system.
- Plan and conduct training programs.
- Ensure department meets legal requirements concerning student transportation.
- Enter and retrieve applicable bus transportation data using a computer.
- Meet schedules and timelines.
- Train and evaluate the performance of assigned staff.
- Maintain current knowledge of applicable provisions of applicable federal, State and District laws, rules and regulations.
- Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Interpret, apply and explain rules, regulations, policies and procedures.

- Operate a computer and assigned office equipment.
- Plan and organize work.
- Direct the maintenance of a variety of reports and files related to assigned activities.
- Seeing: Must be able to read reports and use the computer.
- Hearing: Must be able to hear well enough to communicate with staff, et.al. in the shop, 2-way radio and via telephone.

Work Schedule (Approximately): Monday - Friday (on student attendance days - 9 months) 6:30 am - 9:00 am and 2:15 pm - 4:15 pm
