SUMMARY
The Union County Humane Society is reinventing it's working model by building programs that focus on the power of the Human-Animal-Bond.
We have operated as a traditional shelter since 1913 but now need a forward-looking Operations Manager motivated and willing to offer as well as try new ideas that allow us to break away from the traditional shelter model. We will continue important traditional practices to sharpen our intake-to-placement, but equally want to strengthen the role and education of our fosters, leveraging our volunteers as ambassadors, continually grow partnerships with other essential county services as well as integral community partnerships.
WORK CULTURE
We need you to be the example and the leader to our small staff, modeling inclusion and respect for all who interact with the shelter. We utilize volunteers from our local prison system, we support those of limited means, we chip pets for the elderly... We believe we will only grow if we teach and lead a model that demonstrates compassion at both ends of the leash.
Equally important is that you have the discipline to integrate repeatable processes, leverage data and optimize our shelter management software as well as seeking and implementing efficiencies as you discover them.
SOME NITTY GRITTY
We are largely a rural county that is rapidly changing. As the third fastest growing county in the state, our animal imbalance has been very challenging. Columbus is pushing into our county which brings financial partnership opportunities, as well as a new exciting group of residents to serve.
As you might suspect, the job will require you to oversee staff performance, be an influential voice in new programs, oversee the creation, implementation and repeatability of procedures and processes, assure cleaning protocols, coordinate efforts with the events committee, volunteers and other key players, etc.
But none of those trump the importance of being the front line voice that supports and grows our mission with our staff, volunteers and the community.

WORKING CONDITIONS
We are open 7 days a week 365 days a year. Your job is salaried with an expectation of 40 hours a week. We only want those who recognize self-care is the key to avoiding compassion fatigue. You will need to model self-care and require it of staff. We have no desire to hire or encourage work martyrs.
We have a contract with the county that brings all strays to our shelter resulting in you coming into contact with animals that may have questionable health and temperament issues. The shelter can be loud and you may be exposed to zoonotic diseases, cleaning agents, wet floors and other similar challenges found in animal welfare work. You'll likely spend much of your day on your feet.
We like to move quickly and remain productive but need you to help lead a work environment that promotes / creates that as an energy and not a stress.
Send us your resume as well as a few sentences explaining why this position speaks to your abilities and desires.
