Operating Room Technician Certified/LPN

Necessary qualifications and skills: Graduate of a Certified School of Operating Room Technology or current Arkansas license as a Licensed Practical Nurse. At least one year OR experience preferred. CPR certification preferred.

Summary: The Operating Room OR Tech/LPN must have a thorough knowledge of sterilization and disinfection. Surgery requires constant focused attention on the operative site.   While there may be periods of relaxed activity, the surgical technologist is in motion during most of the procedure, either preparing equipment for delivery or passing instruments in the correct spatial position.   At the same time, he/she must be anticipating the next step of the procedure.  This requires moderate to intense levels of concentration during the procedure. He/She must be able to stand for long hours and lift 15-30 lbs.  This tech will be able to accurately hand instruments to the physicians during procedures and will assist the physician in performance of the procedure.  Other responsibilities include anticipation of the time constraints, to be prepared for procedures when needed and in a timely manner.  Also, expected to assist in cleaning duties.  He/She will also need to prepare cases for the following day, by utilizing physician preference cards.  This OR Tech will also assist the CPD technician in the central processing department as needed.  Will assist the circulating nurse as needed in transportation of the patient and/or preparation of the patient or Operating Room.  Participates in the OR call schedule, as needed.  Ability to work irregular hours.

• May assist the peri-operative RN with circulating duties by ensuring that each patient receives safe, optimal care.
• Administration of prescribed solutions and drugs.

• Clean, decontaminate, disinfect, assemble, wrap, and sterilize instruments and scopes.
• Implements action based on scientific knowledge and physician preference.
• Always maintains patient confidentiality. 
• Works effectively with OR manager and associates to identify areas of needs.
• Demonstrates priority setting and time management skills.
• Exhibits dependability and reliability in work attendance.
