The Department of Psychiatric Rehabilitation and Counseling Professions is one of seven academic Departments, located in the School of Health Professions. The Department offers a full career ladder of graduate and undergraduate degrees, including a B.S. Degree Occupational Therapy Assistant Program. The Program Director of the Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) Program manages and administers all aspects of the Bachelor of Science OTA Program including planning, budgeting, evaluation, selection of faculty and staff, maintenance of accreditation and commitment to strategies for professional development. The Program Director is a faculty member who teaches within the OTA Program, participates in scholarship, and provides service and leadership within the Department of Psychiatric Rehabilitation and Counseling Professions and the School of Health Professions at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey. This is an open rank, 12-month Faculty Position.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Ensure continued accreditation of the OTA Program by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE).
  • Deliver, evaluate, and update the OTA curriculum to prepare students for certification and practice, ensuring congruence with the mission of the School of Health Professions and Rutgers University.
  • Select, hire, collaborate with, and mentor OTA faculty as they develop course materials, teach, evaluate, and advise students.
  • Create a learning environment that facilitates the development of OTA professionals who are prepared to enter the workforce offering ethical and culturally sensitive services.
  • Design, use, and evaluate course materials and methodology to ensure graduates achieve program outcomes.
  • Manage and update a budget to maintain the objectives of the OTA program and meet the needs of matriculated and entering students.
  • Evaluate, analyze, and report the extent to which the OTA program meets its goals and objectives on an annual basis.
  • Evaluate and update the information and materials that are distributed to applicants, fieldwork sites, and other community partners through the program's web site and brochures.
  • Collaborate with School and University administrative offices and relevant personnel to ensure the program's compliance with policies pertaining to admissions, enrollment, registration,
  • Reporting of grades, satisfactory academic progress, and graduation.
  • Teach courses in the OTA program related to areas of clinical expertise.
  • Advise students and mentor faculty in their student advisement responsibilities.
  • Participate in scholarship related to OT/OTA education.
  • Participate in continuing education to support ongoing development as an effective Program Director.
  • Serve on Department and/or School committees to promote excellence in education, inter-professional collaboration, and community service.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience
Minimum Education/Specialty, License/Certification:
  • Minimum of a master's degree awarded by an institution that is accredited by a regional or national accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. Doctoral degree preferred.
  • Certified occupational therapist or Occupational Therapy Assistant that is licensed in New Jersey (or eligible to become licensed).

Minimum of 5-years of documented experience in Occupational Therapy; this experience must include:
  • At least 2 years of experience in a full-time academic appointment with teaching responsibilities at the postsecondary level.
  • Administrative experience including, but not limited to, program planning and implementation, personnel management, evaluation, and budgeting.
  • Understanding of and experience with Occupational Therapy Assistants
  • Scholarship (e.g., scholarship of application, scholarship of teaching and learning).
  • Clinical practice as an Occupational Therapy Assistant or occupational therapist

Physical Demands and Work Environment
There are no significant physical demands associated with this position. There are no special vision requirements. The work environment includes classrooms and offices. There is moderate noise. The candidate will work primarily on the Piscataway campus and will have access to a standard computer, phone, and internet access to perform the duties outlined. Some local travel is required to make clinical site visits and attend meetings with stakeholders.
