Occupational Therapist

JOB TITLE: Occupational Therapist
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Providing patient care including assessing, planning and implementing occupational therapy treatment plans.
FLSA STATUS (Exempt/Non-Exempt): Exempt
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Reports to the Rehabilitation Director

Essential Functions:

1. Assesses patient condition, establishes goals, treatments and care plan in conjunction with the physician, patient/family.
2. Ensures that appropriate treatment is performed in interdisciplinary fashion, consulting with physicians about impact of occupational therapy factors on the patient's health status.
3. Documents findings, treatments and other patient information for the medial record.
4. Educates patient/family on appropriate care and use of various therapies/exercises.
5. Serves as information/education resource for patients, families and staff.
6. Supervises Occupational Therapy Assistants and Therapy Technicians in course of patient care
7. Serves as a resource to Rehabilitation
8. Provides on-going education to the Rehabilitation
9. Assists the director with patient care issues.
10. Maintains patient confidentiality.
11. Participate in administrative meetings as needed.

The job holder must demonstrate current competencies for job position.

EDUCATION: Requires a master's degree or a Bachelor's degree if degreed program was grandfathered. Current certification as an Occupational Therapist.

EXPERIENCE: Five years' experience in an out-patient therapy clinic. Experience with orthopedics is preferred.

REQUIREMENTS: Current Louisiana state license.

KNOWLEDGE:

1. Knowledge of physical therapy principles, standards and applications.
2. Knowledge of clinic policies, procedures, regulations, safety/infection control, and quality control.
3. Knowledge of how to use therapy equipment.
4. Knowledge of medical terminology.

SKILLS:

1. Skill in appropriate evaluation and treatment of patients.
2. Skill in effectively communicating with in-house as well as external physicians and referral sources as well as skills germane to management such as planning, problem solving, decision making, and motivating others.
3. Skill in using a computer system/EMR to accurately reproduce all appropriate documentation.
4. Skill in accurate recognition of patient/clinic danger and appropriate fall risk patients.

ABILITIES:

1. Ability to establish/maintain effective working relationships with patients, providers and staff.
2. Ability to communicate clearly in verbal and written form.
3. Ability to be a resource to patients and staff.

ENVIRONMENTAL/WORKING CONDITIONS:

Normal office environment. Some travel within community

PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS:

Requires sitting and standing associated with a normal office environment. Some bending and stretching required. Manual dexterity using a calculator and computer keyboard. Requires occasional support all size patients in transfers. Ability to lift 50 lbs. floor to waist. Demands of kneeling, squatting, overhead lifting, upper extremity motion, and strength to perform range of motion and mobilization exercises on patients.

ORGANIZATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
