Job description

Position Summary

We are a small, dynamic team within the Special Education department that is committed to facilitating educational outcomes for students that reflect their interests, abilities, and potential. We divide schools geographically among our team, enjoy each other as co-workers, and appreciate the unique role we play in serving the students of KIPP Public Schools. The caseloads are very manageable and we have planned for growth in each of these positions.

The available therapist position will work with 3-4 of our KIPP schools in Stockton. This is a part-time position (.6 FTE).

Required Qualifications

  • Degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited institution.
  • Current Certification through the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT)
  • Current license to practice Occupational Therapy through the California Board of Occupational Therapy (CBOT)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prefer a Minimum of 3 years of experience providing occupational therapy services (but not required)
  • Prefer a minimum of 1-year experience providing occupational therapy services to children in school settings
  • Knowledge of federal and state special education law and best practices for special education.
  • Bilingual (Spanish or Vietnamese) is beneficial but not required.
  • Demonstrated desire and success in working with students and families from educationally underserved areas.
  • Familiarity with SEIS and PowerSchool data systems helpful
  • Ability to work independently in school settings
  • Ability to travel within the SF Bay Area with own transportation (mileage reimbursed between schools). The position will be based out of the San Jose area.

Physical, Mental, and Environmental Demands

Physical: Ability to navigate office and school campuses, and hold meetings in different spaces. Traditionally, much of the day involves sitting and walking as well as playing activities with students. Ability to access and utilize technology. Occasional lifting/carrying of equipment 1-20 lbs. Infrequent driving to different locations throughout the Bay Area.

Mental: The stress of deadlines and normal work standards, ability to analyze problems and generate alternatives, work with interruptions, concentrate for long periods of time, read, calculate, perform routine math problems, memorize and recall objects and people.

Environmental: Office and/or classroom environments are subject to constant interruptions and distractions. Occasional classroom/school environment and travel. In an emergency context (e.g., a pandemic), work may be conducted virtually fully or partially for extended periods of time or longer, and the expectation is that the individual will establish a productive, remote work environment (e.g., ability to stay connected through different technology means). It may require remote work as current public health guidelines warrant. Adhere to KIPP's health and safety guidelines as outlined by the CDC, CDE, and public health agencies' recommendations.

Classification

Non-exempt, part-time (.6) position based on the Regional Support Office calendar and time-off policy.

We benchmark annually against comparably-sized non-profit organizations in the regions where we operate, to offer competitive salaries. The full-time salary range for this position ranges from $91,000 for recent graduates to $124,000 for those with 10+ years of relevant experience.
