An Occupational Therapist provides evaluations/therapy in a variety of settings, assessing the following areas of development: Gross Motor, Fine Motor, Oral Motor, Perceptual Motor, and Sensory Integration functioning. The Occupational Therapist will provide treatment plans and outcomes reflected in each client's Individual Plan, using therapeutic modalities and procedures to maintain/increase skills. The Occupational Therapist also communicates with staff and families regarding results of the evaluation, treatment, and progress, provides parent training, and makes suggestions for therapeutic programming.

Requirements

Essential Functions

  • Assist in evaluating children with a team of other therapists or on an individual basis.
  • Communicate the results of the assessment/screening as directed.
  • Assist in determining each child's assistive technology needs. This would include but not be limited to specially adapted chairs, feeding devices, splints, adaptive toys and switches, etc.
  • The OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST will provide individual therapy when appropriate to maintain and improve gross and fine motor development; to improve muscle strength and ranges of motion; to improve sensory processing skills; to improve oral motor and self-help skills (feeding, dressing, and pre-speech skills); to assist in providing and/or obtaining the necessary equipment for proper positioning and plan
  • The therapist should have the ability to work effectively with other staff, agencies, and community programs, as well as clients and their parents/guardians.
  • Keep daily progress notes, monthly progress reports for Medicaid needs, and maintain records of, evaluations, visits, etc.
  • Turn in their daily progress reports/billing in a timely manner, and turn in month progress reports to Medicaid in a timely manner
  • Telehealth therapy may be necessary at times
  • Write discharge summaries for all children who are transitioning to the school system for services, or ending services
  • Participate in case conferences, staff meetings, parent group meetings when requested.
  • Participate with other team members in writing goals
  • Attend appropriate workshops and conferences to increase professional effectiveness and to meet the licensing requirements
  • Serve as a resource person for information on gross/fine motor, perceptual-motor, sensory motor, sensory processing skills, and oral motor development, correct positioning for feeding and speech, etc. within centers

General Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the health and safety of clients served.
  • Expected to serve as role model for persons served.
  • Expected to serve as an advocate and to protect the rights of clients served.
  • Expected to participate in training as required by their supervisor or for all LOGAN staff.
  • Expected to perform other duties as assigned by their supervisor.
  • Plan instructional activities for clients, as well as assist families in accessing activities in the community.
  • Furnish all required monthly statistics and insurance reporting requirements on a timely basis.
  • Respect the confidentiality of the clients and families and will respect the cultural diversity of the client and their family, in accordance with LOGAN policies.
  • May be asked to serve on a LOGAN committee that addresses the internal operations of the agency.
  • Provide evaluations in a variety of settings to determine program needs of clients
  • Participate with team members in developing appropriate outcomes for Individual Treatment/Service Plans.
  • Provide reports and written programs to families and other professionals following specific, most up to date insurance requirements.
  • Possible support and supervision of a COTA
  • Duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • A registered Occupational Therapist in the State of Michigan/and or Indiana, depending on location of serving clients.

Experience

  • One year of experience working with the autism population is preferred but not necessary.
  • College practicum work in developing appropriate activities and strategies for individuals with development delays or diagnosis is appropriate when there is no experience.

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • The ability to communicate with other appropriate staff, supervisor, and agency personnel.
  • The ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with clients and families within this format.
  • The ability to provide developmental outcomes for each client and demonstrate activities and strategies to their families and or caregivers.
  • The ability to be creative in exploring new and innovative ideas.
  • Ability to use various electronic forms of communication, session note/data tracking, and various EMR systems
  • The ability to work independently and use sound judgment.
  • They are currently registered/licensed with Michigan and/or Indiana depending on state providing services.
  • Credentialed with appropriate insurance providers for clients and registered in CAQH.
  • The ability to lift clients, 50 pounds, and kneel repeatedly throughout the session.
