The Occupational Therapist is responsible for providing educationally based occupational therapy treatment to individuals and groups to correct specific areas of sensory-motor integrative dysfunction in an online learning environment. The Occupational Therapist will also administer online occupational therapy screenings and assessments to determine a student's level of functioning relative to their age and educational placement in such areas as fine/gross motor skill development, sensory-motor integration, self-care, and the activities of daily living.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential duties.
  • Provides online occupational therapy services, as identified through the IEP/504 plan for assigned students
  • Students are enrolled in an online educational program and the majority of services will be provided online, however there may be times when F2F services are required to be provided by the Occupational Therapist
  • Provides students with individual treatment and group therapy sessions to correct specific areas of sensory-motor integrative dysfunction
  • Administers online occupational therapy assessments to determine a student's level of functioning relative to their age and educational placement in such areas as fine/gross motor skill development, sensory motor integration, self-care, and the activities of daily living.
  • Assessing learning environments of students and deciding what adjustments are needed to ensure the student can access a free and appropriate public education (FAPE)
  • Writes assessment reports identifying the student's needs and proposed treatment strategies; writes individual student goals and objectives as part of the IEP; maintains progress records; participates in the IEP meeting.
  • Develops occupational therapy treatment plans based on the educational goals for eligible students to improve the student's functional abilities within the school and naturalistic settings, in collaboration with the IEP team
  • Participates in meetings with school staff and families on the appropriate implementation of programs; collaborates and coordinates occupational therapy goals with the educational program
  • Adapts equipment to ensure proper positioning and to enhance functional performance of the student, addressing the student's neuromuscular deficits and needs. May include design and fabrication of equipment or recommendations for purchase of adaptive equipment as needed.
  • Monitors therapy programs and consults with educational staff regarding inclusion of appropriate occupational therapy treatment strategies into the educational program; evaluates the efficacy of the established program and makes modifications within the framework of the IEP process as necessary.
  • Demonstrates educational and developmental strategies to students and families for successful home intervention of perceptual, motor, and sensory programs.
  • Maintaining professional and technical knowledge in order to provide clients with the best treatment program available.
  • Complying with federal, state, and local certification requirements.
  • When necessary, collaborating with COTA and additional interdisciplinary staff members to improve the treatment program
  • Follow Medicaid guidelines for provision and submission of eligible services for reimbursement.
  • Other duties as assigned
Supervisory Responsibilities: This position may supervise Certified Occupational Assistants (COTAs)
MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor Degree in Occupational Therapy AND
  • Two-three years of experience working in a public school setting
  • At least one year providing occupational therapy services in an online environment OR
  • Equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
Certificates and Licenses:
  • AOTA licensure (American Occupational Therapy Association) AND
  • Occupational Therapist License issued by Indiana Professional Licensing Agency (PLA)
OTHER REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Visio, etc.); Web proficiency.
  • Ability to travel 20% of the time
  • Ability to clear required background check
