The purpose of this position is to assist students with their occupational needs.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assess students with a designated school team to determine strengths and areas of need using clinical observation, standardized/norm-referenced assessments, curriculum-based assessments, record review, and interview of team and family members
- Score tests, interpret results and write narrative evaluation reports as part of a student's team evaluation;
- Collaborate with school team to prepare an individualized educational plan (IEP), if applicable
- Provide occupational therapy services to identified special needs students (preschool through high school) based on their individual plan to include:
- Consultation and training with school teams (Regular Education teacher, Intervention Specialist, Student, other Related Service Providers, Counselors, Paraprofessionals, etc) as well as families;
- Direct instruction with individual students or groups of students according to their plans related to the following areas:
- Fine Motor Skills
- Visual Motor Skills (prewriting, handwriting, keyboarding)
- Visual Perceptual Skills
- Daily Living/Self Care Skills/Vocational Training
- Access to and Instruction of Assistive Technology
- Use of Technology to Enhance Curriculum and OT Programs
- Sensory-Based Motor Issues
- Sensory Processing Difficulties
- Self Regulation Issues
- Adaptive Equipment Needs
- Monitor student progress in consultation with school team and observation
- Develop home programs for students and families;
- Documentation in the form of weekly progress notes, MSB billing and contributing to progress reports;
- Consult with outside agencies concerning students as applicable;
- In-service school teams concerning writing and/or keyboarding curricula;
- In-service school teams and families and students concerning sensory and/or behavioral issues and strategies;
- Plan sensory motor and self regulation programs;
- Manage sensory equipment needs and sensory motor rooms to ensure access and safety of all equipment;
- Order applicable materials through administrative services
- Other duties assigned by the Principal and/or Director of Disability Services
