An Occupational Therapist has the primary responsibility of assisting individuals to improve their ability to perform activities of daily living in order to maximize safety, quality of life, and independence in their home and community. The Occupational Therapist is a key member of the multidisciplinary care team, centered around the needs and desires of the individual. The Occupational Therapist will support and promote the mission, vision and values of Heritage Christian Services, Inc.
Pay for this position: $60000 - $65000 / year
The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above range represents the organization's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting
- Consult, evaluate, and provide occupational therapy treatments in certified residential or day habilitation settings;
- Complete necessary documentation including treatment notes, progress notes, evaluations, insurance justifications, etc. Maintain HIPAA compliant communication and documentation standards;
- Create individualized care plans as needed, outlining the method(s) in which direct support staff are to assist the person within the domains of range of motion, home exercise, adaptive equipment, sensory programming, transfers, and activities of daily living;
- Provide training and in-services for direct support professionals in the areas of range of motion, home exercise programs, adaptive equipment, sensory programming, transfers, and activities of daily living;
- Collaborate and communicate with the interdisciplinary care team, including the individual receiving services, guardian (if applicable), and other care team members (both within Heritage and external supports) in order to maximize the quality of care for the individual;
- Recommend and facilitate acquisition of necessary adaptive equipment, which includes justification letters for insurance coverage. Collaborate with agency Physical Therapists as needed related to evaluations and equipment maintenance;
- Attend medical appointments with individuals supported to maximize the benefit of the appointment when deemed appropriate by the therapist and other treatment team members;
- Attend meetings and agency functions as deemed necessary;
- Support community programming at the Pieters Family Life Center (Finger Lakes therapist) as deemed necessary;
- Maintain licensure as outlined by New York State;
- Provide supervision and education services to local college level Occupational Therapy students as approved by administration;
- Provide supervision of COTA, as needed
- B.S. degree in Occupational Therapy required, M.S. degree in Occupational Therapy preferred;
- Licensed and currently registered by New York State to practice occupational therapy required;
- A valid NYS driver’s license that follows Agency standards required;
- Prior experience with people with developmental disabilities preferred
