Occupational Safety and Health Specialist, Mid

Key Role:

Support the Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) technical and program management functions for federal clients and develop and deliver formal OSH training coursework. Conduct industrial hygiene monitoring for physical, radiological, chemical, and biological hazards in a laboratory and field environment and assist with the preparation of reports and metrics, including training records, medical surveillance, occupational illness and injuries, and semi-annual audit reports. Coordinate annual chemical fume hood and biosafety cabinet certification and repair of dysfunctional units, and assist with managing the facility’s chemical inventory system, including generating reports, performing chemical inventory updates, managing user access, and training. Research regulations, consensus standards, and other literature to inform the development and annual update of OSH programs. Perform ergonomic assessments in lab and office spaces, provide sound recommendations to mitigate workplace injuries, perform indoor air quality investigations upon request, and assist with personal protective equipment (PPE) assessments, job hazard analyses (JHA), and engineering control assessments. Assist with conducting semi-annual facility safety audits and aid staff to implement corrective actions and investigate Safety and Health issues, including accidents and near-misses, and follow-up with relevant parties for resolution. Provide backup support to a radiation safety program, including package check-in, quarterly surveys, and records management and support to an environmental compliance program, including waste area inspections, fuel storage area inspections, and reporting.

Basic Qualifications:

  • 1+ years of experience with research and development laboratory environments
  • Experience with state and federal Occupational Safety, health, and environmental regulations
  • Experience using Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Access, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Experience using Microsoft
  • Point, Oracle, and data management and productivity software
  • Ability to obtain a security clearance
  • Bachelor’s degree

Additional Qualifications:

Experience managing or creating databases, including Access,
  • Point, Oracle, or data and record software systems
  • Experience managing or creating Web design, development, or Content Management Systems
  • Experience conducting laboratory safety audits
  • Experience conducting an inventory of materials
  • Experience providing support for safety, health, and environmental management
  • Possession of excellent verbal and written communication skills, including using various communication methods such as emails, presentations, and in-person interviews
  • OSHA 40-Hour Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) Certification
  • Graduate of Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) Hazardous Waste Generator Training

Salary at Booz Allen is determined by various factors, including but not limited to location, the individual’s particular combination of education, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, as well as contract-specific affordability and organizational requirements. The projected compensation range for this position is $52,100.00 to $119,000.00 (annualized USD). The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position and is just one component of Booz Allen’s total compensation package for employees. This posting will close within 90 days from the Posting Date.
