Job description

The DuPont Clinic is a referral center for all-trimester abortion and ultrasound-guided procedures, including for abnormal or high risk pregnancies, and for people with complex medical situations who may have difficulty accessing care. We provide the highest level of medical care and a private experience focused on the individual needs of each patient. We seek an outstanding obstetrician-gynecologist to provide abortion care in all-trimesters. This person will provide high-quality patient care, excellent customer service, ensure efficient patient flow, ensure a safe clinic environment, and work collaboratively with all team members to create a great workplace. The obstetrician-gynecologist will work 12-16 weeks per year, as mostly4-day clinical weeks and occasional 3-day clinical weeks, with monthly meetings and occasional staff trainings on other administrative days. The ideal candidate would be local to the D.C. metropolitan area, flexible with scheduling, and open to working with our provider team to create cross-coverage and a back-up system over the next 1-2 years.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Maintain the highest level of patient-centered care
  • Meet productivity goals for physician staff
  • Meet patient satisfaction goals for physician staff
  • Follow DuPont Clinic protocols
  • Perform uterine aspiration with both manual and electric suction sources
  • Perform dilation and evacuation procedures
  • Learn and perform DuPont induction-evacuation procedures
  • Evaluate patients prior to procedures
  • Document appropriately
  • Participate in team emergency drills, training, and meetings
  • Communicate effectively with all members of patient-care team
  • Assist with the training and on-boarding of new staff as needed
  • Actively teach and train medical trainees rotating at DuPont Clinic (mostly Ob/Gyn residents and family planning fellows)
  • Actively promote a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Board-certified or board-eligible obstetrician-gynecologist required
  • Complex Family Planning board eligible or board certified preferred
  • Licensed in the District of Columbia, or license in process
  • Abortion experience to at least 23 weeks
  • Willingness to provide abortion care to 32 weeks
  • Excellent ultrasound skills
  • Curiosity and a desire to learn
  • Flexibility with scheduling
  • Commitment to improving patient experience of care
  • Strong commitment to a person's bodily autonomy and principles of reproductive justice
  • Local to DC (highly preferred)
  • Native speakers of the following languages: Spanish, Arabic, Amharic, Mandarin, Vietnamese, French, and Portuguese (highly preferred)
  • Knowledge of the political landscape involving abortion care (preferred)
  • Previous experience in abortion care or reproductive health (strongly preferred)

Physical and Work Environment

  • Ability to work 12 - 16 weeks per year, either 3-day or 4-day weeks. Four-day weeks are typically Monday to Thursday, but occasionally Tuesday-Friday if there is a Monday holiday. Three-day weeks are usually Wednesday-Friday, and based on holidays that prohibit 4-day weeks.
  • Ability to take call and work nights during patient care weeks, as needed to accommodate patient needs
  • Ability to respond quickly to patient needs and work at fast pace
  • Will be exposed to the following hazards on a frequent basis: mechanical, electrical, chemical, blood and body fluids. Will be required to wear protective clothing and equipment as needed.
  • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance and perform a sliding transfer of 150 lbs with a second person present.
  • Ability to work under stress and handle multiple project deadlines.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, multicultural, collaborative work environment
