Job description

The Northwest Arctic Borough School District (NWABSD) Customer &Client Relations/Food Service Manager will support food service operations and a wide a variety of administrative duties in support of the division's operations in the NANA Region. This will include managing day to day food service activities and employees. This position will also support communication efforts, local outreach, and community engagement to build positive and lasting relationships. This position may also assist with training & development of team members, contractual and customer service education for our clients, customers, and NMS owners. 

** Selected candidate must reside in Kotzebue, AK with required travel up to 50% to NANA Region villages. This position is reserved for NANA Shareholders.  A year-end bonus of $10,000.00 available if completing the full school year. This is a ten (10) month contract. Manager housing provided.**

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assists with planning and/or implementing Sodexo programs on a variety of nutritionally balanced, attractive, and cost-effective meal menus.
  • Meets with supervisors to discuss daily menus, issues, and challenges.
  • Maintains or approves various administrative materials such as timesheets, payroll, personnel or accounting materials, safety records, OSHA forms, MSDS records, etc.
  • Assist with various special food orders, supplies, and/or items.
  • May complete special assignments including conducting demos, revising procedures, cost reviews, etc.
  • May be required to support nutritional needs of response team to include physically performing a wide variety of high-volume food preparation and production.
  • Cash handling, data entry, invoicing and reconciliation of financial reports and safe audits.
  • Prepares reports, correspondence, complies various statistical reports/graphs to support staff, supervisors/managers, and operations.
  • Operates or performs such standard office duties as producing general office correspondence, using a variety of telephone and office equipment, handling confidential documents and information.
  • Responsible for sales and inventory including cash reconciliation.
  • Assists with all new employee onboarding, paperwork, and training.
  • Assist coworkers during staffing shortages.
  • Engagement coordination: Assist Communications Business Advisor in planning and carrying out community meetings and visits in rural Alaska villages. Ensure necessary community engagement records are kept.
  • Rural programs: Workforce development program collaboration with NDC and to strengthen relationships within Alaska Native Corporation communities.
  • Maintains excellent customer/client methods of communications to permit efficient problem resolution and acceptance of new services or programs.
  • Spends majority of time in the operation and community interacting with customers and employees.
  • Facilitates and assists with our five customer experience initiatives: 1) Village Town Hall Meetings, 2) Customer and Client Survey's, 3) Social Media Feedback Outreach, 4) Focus Groups in all villages/schools and 5) Shareholder and Employee Shareholder interface.
  • Leads, directs, and communicates with Ops teams to keep them informed, educated, and motivated.
  • Develops, updates, and implements training materials and programs to include customer service, food safety/sanitation, physical safety, etc. Implements other Company or Department wide training related to improving customer experience, client, and shareholder employment experiences.
  • Performs a variety of audits and self-inspections including areas of customer service.
  • Performs a variety of general administrative and office tasks that ensure compliance of assigned responsibilities/activities with internal and external regulations as well as sound business practices.
  • Provides the managerial expertise required to continually improve assigned services.
  • Utilizes operational standards and targets to measure the achievement of the business unit's objectives.
  • Devises effective solutions to business problems.
  • Takes positive actions to recruit and facilitate the development of NANA shareholders.
  • Recruits, screens, and interviews applicants for employment.
  • Ensures adherence to Company standards and accountability.  In such cases that they are not, ensures compliance to NMS' policy on progressive disciplinary action.
  • Consistently demonstrates remarkable skills in structuring assigned activities, teamwork, communications, operational efficiencies, handling of client/customer changing needs, decision making, developing employees, and analyzing and solving typical business problems.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Must be a NANA Shareholder.
  • One (1) years of experience in Community Relations Management, Food Service Management experience, Communications Coordination, External Affairs, or similar career field.
  • Alaska Food Handler's Card contingent upon 30-days of hire.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • A valid Driver's License and an acceptable driving record for the past three (3) years to be eligible under NMS' vehicle insurance policy.
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends.
  • Willingness to travel, including small planes.
  • Ability to merchandise, market effectively, and enhance the National School Lunch Program (NSLP).
  • Ability to ensure consistency in service quality and food presentation.
  • Ability to effectively execute a business plan to meet needs.
  • Ability to assist multiple locations.
  • Skilled in providing exceptional client/customer service and communication.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

Weather: Indoors, environmentally controlled. Requires most or all work to be done inside.

Noise level: Moderate.

Description of environment: This is an industrial kitchen located in a school setting.

Physical requirements: Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, use hands/fingers to handle or feel, stoop, kneel, talk/hear, see, taste/smell, and carry weight/lift. Must frequently lift and/or move up to 25lbs - 35lbs.
