Duties
- Performs a variety of tasks having several steps or a sequence of tasks that requires attention to work operations in a kitchen or dining area following established procedures.
- Responsible for the proper carving of roasts, turkey and ham into individual serving sizes as requested by the guests.
- Receives specific training from the supervisory chef and is evaluated on the basis of demonstrated skill in carving as directed.
- Sets up buffet lines, steam tables, dining room tables and side service stands with hot and cold food items including meats, vegetables, salads, desserts, bread, butter and beverages; replenishes as necessary.

- Satisfactory completion of a minimum of 4 hours initial food sanitation and safety training is required within 30 days of employment and a minimum of 4 hours refresher training annually.
- Subject to satisfactory completion of all pre-employment checks in accordance with AR 215-3, Chapter 2 to include a medical examination.
- Incumbent may be required to complete a Tier 1 background investigation for a Common Access Card for physical access to federally-controlled facilities.
- Frequently lifts and moves items weighing up to 40 pounds.
- Requires constant standing, stooping, bending, walking and reaching.
Qualifications
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions and possess basic math skills.
- Experience as a Food Service Worker desirable.
- Ability to follow oral instructions and do assigned repetitive tasks.
- Must observe established safety procedures when using knives and other equipment in the performance of duties.
- Knowledge of food handling techniques for sanitation and safety purposes is required.
- Must have skill and knowledge to perform tasks involving several procedures and be able to concentrate on work assignments despite frequent interruptions and distractions.
- Must know basic food handling techniques, personal hygiene standards and safe work procedures.

- This is a federal wage schedule (FWS) position.
- All FWS employees are entitled to overtime work for work in excess of 8 hours in a day or in excess of 40 hours in the administrative workweek, whichever provides the greater benefit to the employee.
- Regular full-time, regular part-time (to include those in a limited tenure appointment category) and regularly scheduled flexible employees are entitled to Sunday premium pay when working Sunday shifts. A FWS employee will be paid a night shift differential of 7.5% for the entire shift when a majority of the employee's regularly scheduled non-overtime hours of work occur between the hours of 1500 and 2400. A FWS employee will be paid a night shift differential of 10% of the scheduled rate if a majority of the employee's regularly scheduled non-overtime hours of work occur between the hours of 2300-0800.
Incentives and Bonuses
- Incentives may be paid.
- Up to 25% recruitment and/or retention incentive may be authorized for positions offering at least a guarantee of 10 hours per week.
