Nutrition Services Coordinator

People Helping People has been the foundation of Senior Friendship Centers for over 50 years, and we are looking for a dynamicNutrition Services Coordinator! The Nutrition Services Coordinator will have an essential role in helping seniors of the community receive the healthy nutrition they need. The Nutrition Services Coordinator will split their days operating a dining site in the morning and then conducting in-home nutrition assessments for seniors in the afternoon.

The Nutrition Services Coordinator will be a compassionate individual who thrives on delivering exceptional customer service. Strong communication skills and the ability to speak Spanish fluently is a must. Afternoons will be spent driving your car around the county to the seniors' homes.

The mission of the Senior Friendship Centers is to promote health, dignity, and quality of life throughout the journey of aging. Older adults throughout four counties in Southwest Florida rely on Senior Friendship Centers for help with nutrition, adult day services, social engagement, education, help in times of crisis, and so much more.

Essential Functions:

Dining Sites

  • Engage participants with conversation, support, and a nutritious meal. Research, develop and oversee activities according to participant interests.
  • Partner with local agencies and volunteers to offer classes, speakers, and learning opportunities or other activities at the dining sites.
  • Manage the daily operations of a congregate meal dining site.
  • Receive food as delivered to the site, check temperatures, and arrange for substitute service when necessary.
  • Responsible for the set-up, clean up, and sanitation of the kitchen and dining area.
  • Additional site maintenance or building cleaning may be assigned depending on location.
  • Ensure supplies are properly stored, and kitchen and storage areas are secured at end of shift.
  • Record daily temperatures of the refrigerator and freezer.
  • Ensure program functions remain compliant with Area Agency on Aging, Department of Elder Affairs, and county regulations and policies.
  • Supervise, train, and direct the work of volunteers.
  • Work closely with vendors to assure menu compliance, quality control, and timely delivery. Oversee and reconcile the accurate ordering and serving of meals; prepare and take reservations and cancellations.
  • Complete assessments and assist with administrative records and tasks for the Nutrition Program.
  • Report any incident of abuse or neglect as mandated by state guidelines.
  • Must comply with HIPAA regulations and OSHA laws and safety guidelines.

Home Delivered Meals

  • Respond to referrals for home delivered meals (HDM) and congregate meals. Administer the DOEA 701A/701C assessment form electronically and complete all case file documentation.
  • Initiate, coordinate, and monitor meal service plans with clients acting as liaison with agencies.
  • Contact home delivered meals waitlisted clients to determine continued interest.
  • Complete data entry, client reports and verify all information.
  • Process EHEAP referrals and applications, assuring proper documentation and data entry.
  • Assist with meal orders, weekly reconciliation, and billing functions.
  • Develop and promote relationships with service providers and businesses to assure understanding of the organization's mission.
  • Develop and distribute nutrition outreach and educational materials to promote the program.

Organizational:

  • Attend staff meetings, training, and seminars as required.
  • Participate in fundraising and outreach activities to promote the organization's mission.
  • Must comply with all Senior Friendship Centers personnel policies.
  • Must protect the safety and health of staff, volunteers, participants, and others by observing and following the organization's safety and incident policies.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • Volunteers.

Qualifications
Competencies:

Education, Experience, Licenses, and Certifications:
  • Requires a degree in Social Work, Human Services, or a related field. Related experience may substitute for a degree.
  • Management experience is strongly preferred.
  • Experience presenting social, recreational, and educational programs to adults is desirable.
  • Intermediate computer skills are required; Must have experience using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and other basic computer software and hardware, and the ability to quickly learn the organization's systems.
  • Bilingual required (English/Spanish).
Physical Demands:
  • Prolonged periods sitting, standing, and walking.
  • Must be able to lift 30 pounds.
  • Must be able to navigate various departments of a physical location.
Travel:
  • Daily travel to a regular congregate meal site location is required. Occasional travel to other meal site locations to assist with program support and training may occur.
  • Travel to client's homes for scheduled in-home assessments.
  • Travel within the several counties in which Senior Friendship Centers Inc. operates to support operations, fundraising, and outreach.
  • Must have reliable transportation.
  • A valid driver's license and proof of insurance are required for all work-related travel.
Additional eligibility requirements:
  • Satisfactory clearance of a fingerprint-based, level II background screening and pre-employment substance abuse testing is required.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States.
