Job Description:
Under the supervision of a Nurse Leader and the direction of the Registered Nurse, the Nurse Technician is responsible for performing specific duties that support patient care, which includes direct and indirect patient care activities that are essential to providing a safe and efficient care environment. This position performs selected interventions and activities that contribute to providing comprehensive care to patients in accordance with all existing regulatory and hospital standards, policies, and procedures. In addition, along with the care team, this position is responsible for ensuring a positive patient experience.
This role performs in a high activity work environment with multiple priorities and necessitates flexibility in scheduling.
Job Responsibilities:
• Assists the RN and the nursing care team by performing nursing care measures that contribute to the daily management of patient care. Upholds infection prevention standards.
• Performs and assists with direct patient care: bathing, grooming, oral / denture care, perineal care, toileting, elimination, feeding, positioning, repositioning and ambulation.
• Performs interventions: specimen collection, urinary catheter care, Point of Care Testing.
• Obtains and records vital signs using the electronic medical record.
• Assists in maintaining a clinical environment that is clean, safe and free from clutter.
• Reports deviations and changes in patient status in a timely manner to the RN.
• Performs EKG and/or Phlebotomy duties based on assigned unit, hospital, and / or need.
• Performs other related duties as required.
Qualifications:
Qualifications -
Minimum Education:
• Current enrollment in an accredited ASN or BSN program and in good academic standing.
• Successful completion of PCT specific HHC orientation.
Preferred Education:
• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Successful completion of Hospital approved Preceptor training.
Preferred Experience:
Acute care experience as a nursing assistant
Licensure, Certification, Registration
• Certified BLS Provider credentialed from the American Heart Association (AHA) obtained within 2 Months (60 days) of hire date or job transfer date.
Preferred Licensure, Certification, Registration
• Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) preferred.
Language Skills
• Must be able to read and understand oral and written instructions, and effectively communicate information in English.
Knowledge, Skills and Ability Requirements
• Basic cardiac life support.
• EPIC experience preferred.
• Basic math skills.
• Basic computer skills.
• Demonstrated ability to use skillful communication with members of the healthcare delivery team and with patients. Uses communication skills to foster a healthy work environment and facilitate positive patient outcomes and experience.
• Ability to read and understand medical terminology.
• Lifting techniques.
• Phlebotomy technology skills (unit/facility specific).
• 12 Lead EKG/telemetry lead placement skills (unit/facility specific).
• Recognizes and respects diversity. Utilizes appropriate resources in a respectful and nonjudgmental manner. Demonstrates knowledge of care for age specific populations.
• Organizational skills.
• Demonstrated attention to detail in all aspects of work.
• Demonstrates fiscal responsibility in time management, resources and use of supplies
• Ability to manage time and productivity without immediate supervision.
• Strong customer service skills. Demonstrates cultural sensitivity in all interactions with patients/families and co-workers.
• Ability to work well as part of a dynamic team.
• Demonstrated ability to work in an environment with high activity and multiple priorities.
• Flexibility to respond to changes in work schedules as necessary or as requested.
