Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Nursing Professional Development Consultant to join our team. As a registered nurse with expertise in nursing education, the NPD Consultant will play a crucial role in influencing the professional role competence and growth of nurses across various settings. The successful candidate will support lifelong learning initiatives, create a conducive learning environment, and facilitate the adult learning process. Additionally, the NPD Consultant will collaborate with nursing leadership to ensure the clinical competence of nursing staff, contributing to the provision of high-quality patient care.
Essential Responsibilities: Professional Development:
- Plan, develop, implement, and evaluate Professional Development programs that align with organizational strategies and goals.
- Conduct educational needs assessments, document findings, and develop high-quality, evidence-based educational programs.
- Utilize adult learning principles and the novice-to-expert framework for skill development and knowledge acquisition.
- Evaluate program effectiveness, monitor goal attainment, stakeholder satisfaction, and cost-effectiveness.
Program Management:
- Partner with nursing leadership to establish evidence-based orientation, training, and competency assessment programs.
- Refer to regulatory standards, scope and standards of practice, job descriptions, and organizational policies to guide competency assessment.
- Analyze data to identify competence deficits and address high-risk or problem-prone areas.
Leader/Change Agent:
- Analyze healthcare issues and contribute to change initiatives.
- Differentiate between performance/systems issues and development needs.
- Demonstrate leadership on a professional level and maintain involvement in community, state, and national activities.
- Stay informed about change management theories and regulatory standards.
Consultant:
- Serve as a resource to individuals and groups, identifying issues and providing internal and external resources.
- Participate in the review of research and evidence-based practices, incorporating findings into educational activities.
Mentor:
- Model professionalism and integrity.
- Mentor peers and colleagues, acting as a role model for ongoing Professional Development.
- Maintain clinical expertise through self-evaluation, peer review, and continuing education.
Qualifications:Basic Qualifications:
- Minimum two (2) years of education experience.
- Minimum three (3) years of clinical experience in a specialty.
- Bachelor's degree in nursing.
- Registered Nurse License (in the state where care is provided).
- Basic Life Support certification within 1 month of hire.
Additional Requirements:
- Knowledge of current regulations and requirements (TJC, OSHA, OSBN).
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a team member.
- Strong skills in didactic presentation, time management, interpersonal communication, and conflict resolution.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Minimum three (3) years of leadership/management experience.
- Minimum five (5) years of education experience.
- Minimum five (5) years of clinical experience in an acute care setting.
- Master's in nursing with a focus on clinical specialty.
- Certification in specialty practice (Nursing Professional Development and/or clinical specialty).
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Note: This is a new position with direct reports. Relocation is available nationwide, and work hours are not flexible.
