Highline College is the most diverse community college in Washington State and one of the most diverse in the United States. ABOUT THE NURSING PROGRAM:
There are a variety of roles within nursing, each of which requires unique preparation. Highline College supports the differentiated roles of the practical nurse, associate degree registered nurse, and the baccalaureate registered nurse. Nursing education is dynamic and responds to current and future needs of individuals, groups, and communities in a constantly changing health environment. Nursing education at HC consists of basic preparation, which prepares graduates to take the national licensure examination for registered nurses and a career as an entry level registered nurse.
The program supports the college mission statement, preparing students through engagement, learning and achievement, integrating diversity, globalism and sustainability. The program also contributes to the College’s vision as an “educational crossroads where dreams are shaped, communities created, and excellence achieved.” The Nursing Program distinguishes itself by offering a creative, cutting edge, hands-on, concept-based nursing education. The faculty and staff are empowered to reach their potential and thrive in a state-of-the-art facility. The faculty work in partnership with industry, the College, and the students.
The program is designed to meet the ACEN Standards, as well as meet Washington State Administrative Codes (WAC), NCLEX, and QSEN standards. The faculty recognize that students enter the Nursing Program with a variety of educational and life experiences. The faculty believe that learning and teaching are interactive processes and expect the student to assume an active role in their learning. The faculty use a variety of instructional strategies to facilitate critical thinking, problem solving and individualized learning experiences. The resulting acquisition of new skills and knowledge enable the registered nurse to make decisions and take actions that are consistent with professional values, standards for nursing practice, and licensing laws.
