Job Description
Administrative Faculty Contract. Non Tenure Track, Benefits Eligible.
This position is an administrative role that serves as the leader of Nursing and related programs. The Nursing Director models a commitment to student success and excellence; practices clear and open communication; utilizes collaborative and innovative problem-solving; and demonstrates appreciation, sensitivity and respect for diversity.
The Nursing Director is responsible for all aspects of leading and managing Nursing and related programs in compliance with the Nevada State Board of Nursing and the accrediting agency, as well as in alignment with the college mission and vision. The Director promotes a positive teaching, working and learning environment, as well as responding to student’s educational needs for degree completion. The Director is also responsible to work with local, state and federal organizations, agencies and leaders to support college and department initiatives, develop partnerships, ensure programs respond to regional workforce needs, and advance student opportunities leading to job attainment and career success. The Director must maintain a broad and detailed knowledge of the college's programs and service area, as well as knowledge of the needs associated with each.
The Director establishes strategic vision, priorities and goals for the program, in alignment with the governing agencies and the college, and is responsible for developing and leading the process of successful implementation and goal attainment. This includes (but is not limited to) oversight of finances, budget and grants; accreditation; enrollment and completion; curriculum and instruction; course offerings and scheduling; clinical/field experiences, contracts and supervision; faculty and staff recruitment, development, evaluation and retention; equipment acquisition and maintenance; and all aspects of program management.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Lead and manage all aspects of Nursing and related programs
  • Align department activities with the college's strategic mission, vision and goals
  • Understand and drive the department's strategic vision, updating/revising as needed; develop, revise and evaluate short and long-range planning
  • Utilize a shared governance model of leadership whenever possible and appropriate
  • Supervise, observe, evaluate and support full-time and part-time faculty and staff, to include adjunct instructors, to promote accountability and personal/professional growth
  • Manage and maintain accountability for course and program enrollment
  • Model open communication, respect, and collegiality within the department and throughout the college; mediate conflict with professionalism and collegiality
  • Collaborate effectively with other college divisions, departments and locations to ensure efficient and aligned use of available resources
  • Manage grants to ensure deliverables/outcomes are met; seeking and developing new funding opportunities that align with the strategic plan for the division
  • Effectively utilize available resources to support department success
  • Advocate for the needs and priorities of the department
Manage fiscal outcomes of the program (NAC 632.655 b)
  • Develop and manage annual program budgets, overseeing expenditures accordingly
  • Ensure fiscal compliance and accuracy of grants
  • Oversee purchasing, maintenance and inventory of division equipment and supplies
  • Provide reporting, as required
In compliance with requirements of the Nevada State Board of Nursing –
  • Lead the planning and organizing of nursing and related programs
  • Ensure the program complies with the plan submitted to the Board
  • Notify the board of substantial changes in the program or administration or sentinel events
Develop, implement, manage and evaluate programs
  • Maintain currency and accuracy of college catalog and related materials
  • Develop class schedules and instructor loads each semester, in accordance with the collaborative bargaining agreement and in coordination with faculty and the VPASA
  • Lead an ongoing cycle of continuous improvement to ensure relevant and high-quality learning opportunities for students
  • Support and expand innovative curriculum delivery options
  • Support and expand program level and student learning objective assessment processes to improve instruction
  • Facilitate dual enrollment opportunities, when available
  • Oversee industry partnerships, advisory committees and accreditation requirements
  • Develop, revise and deactivate programs, as needed
Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure Nursing and related programs maintain relevance and alignment with regional and statewide needs
  • Conduct periodic community and workforce needs assessments to inform program relevance, operation and alignment
  • Maintain awareness of local, regional and state initiatives that impact nursing and related programs; ensure department participation in such initiatives as appropriate
  • Maintain positive, productive relationship with the Nevada State Board of Nursing, accrediting agencies and other state/national agencies, boards and institutions that inform industry operations and governance
  • Represent the division on college, system and state boards/committees as assigned
  • Other duties as assigned
Note: Stakeholders include, but are not limited to, employers, transfer institutions, school districts, foundation board, state/workforce development agencies, and others
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Doctoral degree in nursing or related field from an accredited school or Master’s degree in Nursing and ability to complete a doctoral degree within 5 years of hire (NAC 632.660)
  • Five years of experience as a registered nurse (NAC 632.660)
  • Three years of experience teaching in an accredited program of nursing (NAC 632.660)
  • Current Nevada license as registered nurse or ability to meet the qualification to obtain licensure (NAC 632.660)
  • Experience in academic and professional administration and/or leadership (NAC 632.660)
  • Two years of experience developing and implementing programs and curriculum
  • Two years of experience in budget management, to include grants (NAC 632.665)
  • One year of experience developing complex schedules, preferably in an educational setting
  • Experience implementing programs and/or working in rural or frontier communities
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience teaching in a higher education setting
  • Experience with the secondary educational system
  • Experience observing and evaluating instruction
  • Experience with local, regional or statewide workforce development initiatives
  • Second language proficiency (written and oral), Spanish preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
The Nursing Director must have a broad and detailed knowledge of nursing education, professional best practices, and work environments; familiarity with WNC’s service area and knowledge of the regional workforce landscape. This position requires a demonstrated ability to exercise individual and group leadership that fosters a positive team environment based on consensus building, collaboration, conflict resolution, task completion and creative problem solving.

Minimum Starting Salary Information:
This position is at a salary grade D. The minimum of the placement range is $85,478.40. The selected candidate will be placed at or above the minimum based on education and experience. WNC's placement range falls within the NSHE salary schedule:
