Nurse/Sonographer Job Description
Classification-Part Time Non-Exempt and/or Full Time Exempt
Direct Supervisor: Clinic Director
Purpose: The Nurse/Sonographer will carry out clinical services for patients of RETA (Reason Enough To Act), providing support and maintaining professional standards of care, following the ANA (American Nurses Association) Code of Ethics. Under the general supervision of the Clinic Director and the Executive Director, she will treat all patients with respect and act in accordance with the Commitment of Care. She is responsible for conducting pregnancy testing, limited obstetrical ultrasounds, STD/STI testing, abortion pill reversal, providing care and support to Nurse Practitioner patients at RETA when they enter into RETA’s OB Program or GYN services with the Nurse Practitioner, and referring for ongoing medical and prenatal care, providing patients with the best care possible.
Qualifications:
- Holds a current Registered Nurse License in good standing with the Indiana State Medical Board and will comply with state and professional continuing education requirements.
- Expresses full agreement with RETA’s Principles, Statement of Faith and Mission Statement.
- Respect and maintain patient confidentiality.
- Is dependable, stable, and capable of following through on commitments.
- Has a sincere desire to reach out to abortion-vulnerable and abortion-minded women.
- Complies with RETA’s policies and procedures.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Has excellent interpersonal skills and works well with patients and the rest of the ministry team (medical directors, medical, Nurse Practitioner, managerial, and office staff and volunteers).
- Is willing and able to serve all patients in a way that honors Jesus Christ and supports and promotes the life-affirming ministry of RETA.
- Comply with all State and federal OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) and HIPPA regulations.
- Will complete limited obstetrical sonography training as well as continuing education as necessary to ensure skill level is current.
- Learn various office tasks such as answering phones, data entry, etc. to gain general knowledge of operations to become an important part of the ministry team.
- Attending staff meetings. Communicate and work with all staff and volunteers as a team with a purpose to love, support, and reach out to all who come with the message of Christ. Either by word or example.
- Teamwork to be shared in the center: Greeting and helping anyone who enters, distributing donations received to the correct personnel when needed, answering phones and taking messages, welcoming and guiding new volunteers, giving building tours, attending annual fundraising events, and occasionally representing RETA by speaking to groups and networking with other agencies serving our patients in the community.
Patient Service Responsibilities:
- Administer or supervise ultrasounds in the office.
- Conduct or delegate pregnancy testing and STD/STI testing in the center.
- Help maintain a clean and sanitary environment for all clinical services.
- Report depleting medical supplies to Clinical Director.
- Thoroughly document patient visits and complete all forms required in eClinicalworks.
- Communicate and help complete all intake and other required forms with each patient.
- Provide consistent communication to the Clinic Director and office personnel regarding any change in scheduling.
- Provide education and referrals to patients for continued care, documenting those referrals in their patient files.
- Follow proper procedures in sending all ultrasound scans to the Medical Director to be read. Follow up with the patient and report any unusual scans to Clinic Director. Coordinate appropriate medical follow-up.
- Agrees to be trained and perform lab draws as needed.
- Assist with checking in patients for the Nurse Practitioner
- When necessary, will contact 911 in the event of an emergency and will complete an Incident Report and communicate to the Clinic Director, Medical Director and/or the CEO.
