DUTIES: 

• Comprehensive assessment and management of uncomplicated acute and stable chronic health problems of inmates
• Perform initial comprehensive medical and psycho-social screening
• Conduct physical examination and risk evaluation of inmates
• Conduct daily sick call
• Assist the physician with procedures
• Provide a wide range of emergency services in the absence of a physician, including primary care for trauma and life-saving procedures
• Perform minor surgical procedures such as: incision and drainage, suturing of lacerations, removal of cysts, and removal/repair of ingrown toenails
• After consultation with the physician, prescribe medications and treatment for illnesses
• Establish diagnostic impressions and request appropriate diagnostic tests (e.g., laboratory, x-ray, visual acuity, and electrocardiogram)
• Interpret results of selected laboratory findings
• Capable of screening for gross mood change, disoriented patters of behavior of speech
• Takes brief psychiatric, drug, alcohol abuse history
• Identify mental disorders such as depression or anxiety and provide emergency treatment and care
• Assist and work collaboratively with the physician in management of selected complex medical problems
• Make decisions concerning medical care needs of the patient with the physician, as well as the decisions regarding special needs
• Assist the physician in performing more exhaustive diagnosis and treatment
• Enter pertinent clinical information in an electronic medical record and ensure data is current and legible

REQUIREMENTS:

• Must possess a valid and current registration as a Nurse Practitioner in a state, District of Columbia, Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
• Must possess a minimum of 3 years of recent experience in acute care, ambulatory care, Medical/Surgical, or psychiatric care facility. Experience in a correctional health care setting is preferred, but not required.
• Must possess documentation of medication administration and intra-venous competency
• Mut be CPR certified, in accordance with the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
• ACLS certification preferred

LOCATION:

HOURS:

• 6 AM – 6 PM EST, Monday – Friday.
• 7.5 – 10-hour shift per day
• (1) 30-minute unpaid lunch break
