Office of Children's Services (OCS) is
recruiting for Long Term Non-Perm Nurse Consultant 1 (37.5 hours/week) located in
Anchorage, Alaska.

What you will be doing
The Nurse Consultant 1 provides medical and mental health consultation to the Office of Children's Services service's staff, as well as administrative guidance, technical assistance, and recommendations to OCS staff regarding psychotropic medications. They assist in identifying and monitoring appropriate residential placements for youth in custody while meeting the least restrictive placement options for them.

Working environment you can expect
This position is located in Midtown Anchorage with nearby restaurants and shops. This position works 37.5 hours/week and works closely with OCS Front Line Protective Services Specialists and medical/mental health providers who are providing care for children in custody. The incumbent will work with and be directly supervised by our OCS Deputy Director.

Minimum Qualifications
Eligibility for licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Alaska.
AND
Any combination of education, certification, and/or experience that provides the applicant with competencies in
  • Technical Credibility: Understands and appropriately applies principles, procedures, requirements, regulations, and policies related to specialized expertise.
  • Evidence-Based Practice: integrates best research practices with clinical expertise and patient values for optimum care and participates in learning and research activities to the extent feasible.
  • Standards: Knowledge of standards that either are compliant with or derived from established standards or guidelines.
  • Reasoning: Identifies rules, principles, or relationships that explain facts, data, or other information; analyzes information and makes correct inferences or draws accurate conclusions.
  • Decision Making: Makes sound, well-informed, and objective decisions; perceives the impact and implications of decisions; commits to action, even in uncertain situations, to accomplish organizational goals; causes change.
Equivalent to those typically gained by:
Completion of a post-secondary education program in nursing, public health, healthcare services, healthcare administration, or a closely related field;
AND
Progressively responsible professional nursing experience that includes responsibility in health care, public health, health care delivery systems, nursing administration, consultative nursing, and/or teaching capacity that is relevant to the position's area of nursing specialty.

Candidates not currently licensed by the State of Alaska, who otherwise meet the eligibility requirements for licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Alaska and requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities, may apply for vacancies in this job class. Some positions require eligibility for specific professional certifications in a specialty field or licensure in the State of Alaska, such as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner. Additional Required Information
At time of interview applicant is requested to submit:

  • A list of three (3) professional* references including daytime telephone numbers and email address; at least two (2) of these must be from a current or former supervisor.
    • Professional is defined as a supervisor or an individual who has direct knowledge of your work performance.
