The University of Iowa Community Clinics (UICC) is seeking a patient centered Nurse Clinician to work in our our UICC Psychology Behavior Health Clinic atour Scott Blvd location. This position will function as a clinical nurse expert and coordination for UICC Behavioral Health populations that are served within UI Community Clinics and Clinical Outreach. Our Nurse Clinician will be a lead liaison for the team that provides care, services, resources, and support to people who have a substance use disorder or mental health for patients within UICC and Outreach. The nurse will facilitate communications between medical staff, management, patients and/or family to provide excellent customer service. This position will serve as a liaison role to provide the dissemination of information and education to clinical care team.

Duties to include:
  • Collaborate with nursing, medical staff, Psychiatric Consultant, and other health professionals in planning, delivering, and evaluating care for primary and specialty patient populations.
  • The administration of validated rating scales for patients.
  • Assist with behavioral health care planning concerning behavioral or psychiatric health problems.
  • Coordinate and facilitate patient care between multiple disciplines including home health agencies, referring physicians and other community support services.
  • Creates revisions for patients not progressing or whose status changes.
  • Brief psychosocial interventions.
  • Acts a liaison to support behavioral health initiatives including new service lines, expanding clinics, adding new providers, etc.
  • Ongoing collaboration with the billing practitioner.
  • Maintenance of the registry.
  • Consultation with the psychiatric consultant.
  • Has a continuous relationship with the patient.
  • Available to deliver services face-to-face with the patient.
  • Collaborative, integrated relationship with the rest of the care team.
  • Can work with the patient outside of regular clinic hours as necessary to perform the behavioral health care manager's duties.
  • May lead clinical personnel in providing specialized patient procedures and care management plans
  • Lead or participate in evidence-based projects within specialty area and collaborate with the appropriate CPL or NPL staff member to implement practice changes.
  • Provide specialized health education to patients and health profession students.
  • Adhere to internal and regulatory policies and guidelines.
  • Applies expertise in communicating real time feedback and direction to clinical staff.
  • Applies expertise to improve nursing outcomes, leads and participates in evidence-based projects, and implements team-based care.
  • Participate in Quality Improvement (QI) initiatives
  • Provides direct patient care/nurse triage responsibilities as needed, floating to other clinics as needed.
  • Other clinic duties as assigned.
  • Staff members are also expected to comply with policies governing employee responsibilities and conduct, including those contained in the University Operations Manual.

Percent of Time: 100% (40 hours per week)
Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM, no holiday's & weekends, No on-call time.
Location: Iowa City, IA and surrounding clinic locations
Pay Grade: 70 - https://hr.uiowa.edu/pay/plans
Salary: $56,021 - $101,674 (based on years of experience)
*In addition to base salary, the selected candidate is eligible for limited time offer of a sign-on incentive of $5,000 - $12,000 for former employees and new hires.*
Education
  • A Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing (BSN), Professional Masters of Nursing and Healthcare Practice (MNHP), MSN/Clinical Nurse Leader or a Master's Degree in Nursing (MSN, MA) is required.
  • Current license to practice in the state of Iowa by the time of hire.
Required Qualifications
  • Requires 1-3 years of nursing experience is required
  • Minimum 1 year of experience providing support services in a behavioral health setting
  • Excellent organization and time management skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Internet
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills with patients/families, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary team members as demonstrated through written and verbal interactions
  • Current, valid driver's license and the ability to meet the University driving policy standards
Desired Qualifications
  • 1 to 3 years' experience in patient care, particularly those with behavioral health partnering with ambulatory specialty, family med or pediatrics
  • Demonstrated involvement in shared governance (retention committee, staff nurse council, etc.)
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with patients, families, and health care workers
  • Professional nursing certification is desired
  • Knowledge of University of Iowa policies and procedures
