Queen's North Hawaii Community Hospital is searching for a Full-Time Nuclear Med Tech. This position will work 40 hours per week, Monday-Friday, 6:45am-3:15pm, no weekends, no holidays.

Queen’s North Hawaii Community Hospital is a 35-bed rural acute care hospital located in Waimea (Kamuela), Hawaii Island. More than 300 employees and over a dozen employed physicians staff the main hospital, as well the outpatient clinics located in the Lucy Henriques Medical Center, at our Primary Care Clinic located near Longs Drugs, and at our Specialty Clinic located in the Parker Ranch Center.

JOB SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Checks and prepares patient prior to Nuclear Medicine study. Performs high quality diagnostic Nuclear Medicine scans of specific body systems in accordance with established standards, procedures and protocols for subsequent evaluation and treatment by the radiologist and attending physician. Monitors equipment and systems, cleans equipment, reports errors and problems. Maintains all aspects of the area. Provides coverage as needed. Performs teaching and instructional services.
  • May be responsible for the assessment, treatment, or care of patients of all ages. Must be competent in the interpretations of the patient’s self-report or behavior and the information must be interpreted with an understanding of the cognitive, physical, emotional and chronological maturtion process. Treatment should be individualized and reflect an understanding of the developmental needs and range of treatment for each patient.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Essential: standing, sitting, walking, stooping/bending, finger dexterity, seeing, hearing, speaking, lifting/carrying usual weight of 1 pound up to 30 pounds, patient movement: pushing and pulling up to 50 pounds of force; lifting: horizontal lift/carry up to 50 pounds, and repetitive arm and wrist movement consistent with computer/mouse usage.
  • Occasional: kneeling, squatting, twisting body, reaching above, at, and below shoulder, repetitive arm/hand motions.
  • Operates dose calibrator, gamma camera, survey meters, well counter, thyroid uptake probe, computer, copier, facsimile, & telephone.

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Not substantially subjected to adverse environmental conditions.
  • Exposure to communicable diseases, body fluids, mechanical/electrical units, chemicals, radioactive materials and radiation.
  • Must be able to work on-call, holidays & occasional irregular shifts.
  • Required Personal Protective Equipment: Operating Room gowns, shoes, hats, & masks, & gloves. Wears leaded personal protective equipment including dosimetry badge in areas of ionizing radiation.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION & LICENSURE:

  • Current Hawaii license as a Nuclear Medical Technologist.
  • Current BLS/HCP level certification.

EXPERIENCE:

  • One (1) year experience in Nuclear Medicine highly preferred.
  • Experience to demonstrate the following:

o Knowledge of Nuclear Medicine physics and computerized Nuclear Medicine systems so as to safely inject radiopharmaceuticals, isotopes and scan all human anatomic systems.
o Knowledge of Nuclear Medicine safety as it applies to self, patients, visitors and co-workers.
o Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with Radiologists and Physicians.
o Strong critical thinking skills.
