Job description

Job Summary:

The NTRO Exercise Oncology Physiologist (NTRO EOP) supports exercise related research study protocols within NTRO, utilizing a comprehensive knowledge of exercise science. The role participates in non-therapeutic research trials studying the impact of exercise intervention on study participants, who have a broad range of cancer diagnoses before, during and after cancer treatment. The incumbent will deliver exercise interventions and exercise testing to participants remotely or in-person, oversee exercise trainings, coordinate activities associated with exercise intervention sessions, and implement video conference exercise training sessions with participants.

 

The role will also support other related research coordination tasks as per assigned study protocol and will work with designated PIs and research teams on assigned projects/protocols. The NTRO EOP possesses comprehensive knowledge of subject matter, works under minimal supervision, handles complex issues and problems referring only the most complex issues to higher level staff or the study Principal Investigator.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Facilitates/delivers exercise training on assigned exercise protocol(s).
  • Identifies, recruits and consents study participants.
  • Conduct pre-participation screening: administer fitness assessments to determine baseline fitness level.
  • Assess, evaluate, and interpret measurements to develop individualized exercise program for participants.
  • Implement and optimally supervise protocol-specific exercise training sessions either onsite or via Tele-Exercise approach.
  • Modify exercise interventions as needed based on participant needs and preferences.
  • Assist in the administration of resting as well as exercise-based assessments as required by the specific Exercise Oncology protocols.
  • Operate and maintain exercise training equipment (e.g., treadmill, ergometers, scales, heart rate monitors, resistance machines).
  • Data collection and documentation in EMR (if applicable and study related documents.
  • Monitors and tracks recruitment and enrollment ensuring adherence to study timelines.
  • Modifies or updates database or study related documents based on evolving study needs.
  • Assists with research administrative tasks including drafting research protocols, protocol amendments.
  • Monitors data collection and compliance with study protocol.
  • Reports adverse events and collaborates with internal and external stakeholders as appropriate.
  • Assists with research dissemination tasks for the investigator.

Credentials and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Health Sciences, Exercise Physiology, Kinesiology, Exercise Science or related field required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • One (1) year of relevant exercise intervention experience required.
    • In lieu of a bachelor's degree an associate degree in health science, exercise physiology, kinesiology, exercise science or related field and three (3) years of relevant exercise intervention experience.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
  • Exercise physiology or exercise training certification (CPT, Certified Personal Trainer) from an accredited organization (ACSM, NASM, ISSA) required.
  • Preferred one (1) year of experience working with physically vulnerable or medically compromised populations and/or one-year relevant research experience (including but not limited to: participant recruitment, collection of data or biospecimens, quality management or other human subjects related research duties).
  • Preferred knowledge of research coordination including conducting research study procedures. Strong communication with participants and stakeholders.
