Description of Work
Position Definition: The Performing Arts Coordinator will be choreographing and running Performing Arts sessions for camp. Campers will be practicing simple group dance numbers for camp show for grades 1 to 4. Must be able to plan the camp show from start to finish.
Example of Duties: Instruct campers in the specific area of choreography and dance. Campers will learn how to perform a song for the camp show.

Supervised By: Receives direct supervision from the Summer Play & Learn Camp Director
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Communication: Ability to demonstrate exceptional communication skills which includes the ability to apply strong interpersonal skills as well as clear, concise, and positive language. Ability to remain professional in all aspects of interaction with campers, their families, peers, leadership team and the larger community. Ability to communicate with the Camp Director with all comments, concerns, questions, or incidents.
Leadership: Ability to lead and provide a team-oriented approach with the goal to provide campers with a positive experience. Ability to guide Mayor's Summer Youth Employment staff to have a deeper understanding of leadership and counseling skills.. Ability to learn and teach specific programs from our camp curriculum, assist in structured classes, and lead a variety of small and large group activities each day. Ability to serve as a positive role model to campers.
Supervision: Ability to work with children of different ages and backgrounds. Ability to exercise patience, understanding, and kindness when it comes to positive behavioral management. Ability to provide group supervision of campers with attention to: behavior and group management, health, safety, security, and personal and skill development.
Additional Skills: Ability to promote and actively participate in all camper activities and projects. Ability to exhibit safety-consciousness at all times. Ability to learn, understand, and enforce ALL emergency procedures associated with the camp program and follow safety rules and guidelines. This includes but is not limited to being responsible for your campers' safety and their whereabouts at all times. Ability to work as a team and contribute to team effort to set up, break down, and complete any cleaning necessary each camp day ensuring that the site is kept clean, organized, and free of litter.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Applicants must be 18 years of age or older with a High School Diploma or GED.
  • Two years of prior teaching experience in different dance genres including teaching dance to groups of elementary and/or middle school children; experience with teaching dance in schools is preferred
  • Prior experience as an educator, coach, camp counselor, performer or experience with early childhood development is preferred
  • Available all six weeks, weekdays from 8:30 am to 3:15 pm June 24, 2024 to August 2, 2024
  • Available to attend all training's prior to camp season- CPR, First Aid and Mandated Reporter training

Special Licenses/Certifications AND/OR Supplemental Information
License or Certificate: Must be able to obtain or become certified in First Aid, CPR, AED, and complete Mandated Reporter training. Training is provided prior to camp season.

Hours: 8:30 am to 3:15 pm June 24, 2024 to August 2, 2024
