Job Summary:

The Non-Destructive Testing Instructor is a full-time, 10 month position for Cowley Colleges CTE program. This position is responsible for effectively managing the NDT program and successfully teaching students within the program.

Position Duties:

  • Teach state approved courses in non-destructive technology.
  • Instruct students in competency-based program curriculum using current instructional strategies appropriate to the subject matter to assure highest quality classroom instruction.
  • Effectively manage the classroom to create an optimal learning environment, maintaining an appropriate balance of classroom discipline.
  • Maintain up-to-date records of student attendance, academic progress and grades as required by College policy and certification/regulatory agencies.
  • Recruit students for the NDT program.
  • Serve as the lead instructor for NDT program full-time and adjunct faculty members.
  • Develop relationships with business community and industry partners.
  • Creation of curriculum, instructional materials and oversight of non-destructive lab and equipment.
  • Serve as the advisor for department students.
  • Responsible for the NDT operations for which assigned.
  • Keep posted office hours and serve on college and relevant industry committees.
  • Maintain courteous, professional and effective working relationships with employees, vendors and/or any other representatives of external organization.
  • Comply with all College policies and procedures
  • Assist the Department Chair of Career and Technical Education by performing other related duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Demonstrate extensive knowledge of and experience in the appropriate subject matter.
  • Capable of developing, qualifying, and approving procedures, establishing and approving techniques, interpreting codes, standards, specifications, and procedures; and designating the particular NDT methods, techniques, and procedures to be used.
  • Capable of interpreting and evaluating results in terms of existing codes, standards, and specifications.
  • General knowledge with other appropriate NDT methods, as demonstrated by an American Society for Nondestructive Testing (ASNT) Level II Basic examination or other means.
  • Capable of training and examining NDT Level I and II personnel for certification in related NDT methods.
  • Ability to work independently, as well as on a team.
  • Ability to work and maintain the highest level of confidentiality.
  • Good communications skills, both written and spoken.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work. Work well under deadline pressures.
  • Excellent human relations skills. Ability to work with individuals from a variety of backgrounds and diverse populations.
  • Understanding of and commitment to academic quality improvement.

Required Education Background:

  • Bachelors Degree.
  • Successful completion of classroom training for Radiographic Testing (RT), Ultrasonic Testing (UT), Eddy Current Testing (ET), Liquid Penetrant Testing (PT), and Magnetic Particle Testing (MT).
  • Level II certification in RT or UT. Level III, preferred.

Required Experience:

  • Have sufficient practical experience in applicable materials, fabrication, and product technology to establish techniques and to assist in establishing acceptance criteria when none are otherwise available.
  • Industry experience, preferred.

Supervisory Requirements: Indirectly lead all program faculty and adjunct faculty.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time; ability to move freely around the campus and outreach centers; ability to lift up to 50 pounds; ability to bend, stoop, reach and grasp as required to perform responsibilities; ability to drive motor vehicle; and ability to work on the computer for long periods of time.

Work Environment:

Work performed in a classroom, laboratory and office environment.
