Department Overview
The Gas Operations Non Destructive Examination (GONDE) group is an internal resource for the execution and program management of all NDE services across the Gas Ops service territory. Our regionally based team specializes in NDE services, quality control, project management and oversight specific to the needs of PG&E's Gas pipeline and station infrastructure.
Position Summary
This position is represented by Engineers & Scientists of California (ESC), Local 20, subject to collective bargaining.
You will perform lab and field assignments and maintenance, repairs, and calibrations using a wide variety of instrumentation, assist in non-conformance investigations, and create reports. Work includes Measuring and Test Equipment set-up and calibration and data acquisition and evaluation. Conducts the safe and efficient planning, resource allocation and execution of NDE inspections across the PG&E service territory.
PG&E is providing the hourly rate range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual hourly rate paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, collective bargaining agreements, and internal equity. This position is subject to collectively bargained hourly wage rates.
The hourly rate for this position ranges from $54.88 to $60.75. Under the terms of the collective bargaining agreement, the starting hourly rate for this position is $54.88, subject to collectively bargained wage increases.
Job Responsibilities

  • Perform all laboratory and field assignments, maintenance and repairs, calibrations, and investigations of a difficult nature on a wide variety of materials and equipment; perform other investigative work as directed.
  • Prepare reports on results of investigations
  • Perform tests in the field including dielectric testing, without supervision
  • May direct the work of other employees

Qualifications
Minimum:
An AA degree in the appropriate field of technology and two to three years experience in the classification of Engineering Technician I or equivalent education and experience with emphasis on laboratory procedures, techniques, equipment, and materials involved.
Desired:
  • Hold at least two NDE Level II certifications (examples: RT, MT, PT, UT, VT, ET).
  • 3 years experience as an Engineering Technician I
  • Ability to perform simple uncertainty analysis
  • Mechanical skills to construct and repair test equipment
  • Ability to work independently in the lab, field, or at PG&E customer facilities
  • Proven ability to work safely within industrial environments
  • Computer proficiency with emphasis on Word and Excel
  • Strong focus on details and ability to follow written procedures closely
  • Calibration experience in at least two of the following types of equipment: pressure, electrical, flow, temperature, dimensional, torque, mass
  • Holds at least one ASNT Level III certification
  • NACE certifications
  • API 1169
  • AWS CWI
