NewsNation is a national news cable network currently reaching 75+ million television households across the United States. The network is owned and operated by Nexstar Media Group (NXST).
NewsNation is looking for an experienced Operations Manager to help build and lead, broadcast operations for national newscasts, based in our Chicago headquarters.
You'll be responsible for managing day-to-day operations in control rooms and studios, and a newsroom filled with a talented and eager team.
Responsibilities (include but not limited to):
- Manage day-to-day broadcast and technical operations for NewsNation - including creating and implementing quality standards for all control room and studio staff and liaising with field crews.
- You will help oversee the day-to-day technical aspects of production, from remote signal acquisition through to transmission, and will serve as the liaison between NewsNation Operations, Engineering, and News Production groups and network studio facilities in Chicago, New York, and Washington DC.
- Ensures the technical needs of Chicago control room staff are met at their assigned positions.
- Collaborate with Nexstar & NewsNation operations and engineering teams to verify/ensure technical requirements of the control room automation, equipment, and studios are met, including maintaining their functionality and professional appearance.
- May work with news production & guest booking personnel in readying live shot transmissions for air and in studio appearances, monitoring live shot activity related to show assignment including live guest transmissions.
- Help create and implement standard operating procedures.
- Evaluate new technologies and make recommendations for budgeting/planning purposes.
- Support bureau photographer and reporters.
- Administer annual performance reviews with staff.
- Other operational duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- 10-15 years of proven leadership, managing television operations teams and studios (newsroom experience strongly preferred).
- Extensive knowledge in Ross control room automation, cameras, non-linear editing systems, ENG video playback and ingest systems, media management, and news acquisition equipment (to include satellite, fiber, and bonded cellular equipment) is strongly preferred.
- The ability to work flexible hours is necessary (mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays) may, and often will be a part of the schedule particularly during special events and breaking news scenarios.
- This position requires a highly organized, self-motivated individual who can interface with a diverse group of people and situations, to diagnose and resolve broadcast technical issues, sometimes remotely, and find work arounds to ensure broadcast quality standards are met. The ability to communicate these fixes clearly and succinctly to others is important.
- Experienced working with and managing union employees in a collective bargaining environment.
