Job Title: Newsletter Editor and Writer (Part-Time)
Reporting:
The person in this position reports directly to APG’s President and CEO.
Location:
This position is remote.
Job Summary:
The person in this position will serve as the Newsletter Editor and Writer for APG, a national professional association representing 360 physician groups with approximately 170,000 physicians who provide care to nearly 90 million patients. Our members are committed to the transition to value-based care and to providing patient-centered, coordinated, and integrated health care that is responsible and accountable for quality and costs.
As the Newsletter Editor and writer, this person will work with an in-house team of policy experts to craft several short news items each week covering matters involving federal health agencies and Congress that bear on value-based health care. The newsletter is published approximately 49-50 times per year.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Serve as Editor and Writer for a weekly online newsletter focused on health care policy.
- Work with an in-house team of policy experts to craft several short news items each week covering matters involving federal health agencies and Congress that bear on value-based health care.
- Design, prepare, and distribute the weekly online newsletter and other communications.
- Meet all critical timeframes and deadlines.
- Edit and proofread news articles for accuracy, grammar, style, and clarity.
- Fact-check information and ensure all sources are properly credited.
- Write engaging headlines and subheadings that capture readers' attention.
- Stay updated on current events and trends to provide relevant and timely news coverage.
Skills and Abilities:
- Exceptional writing, proofreading, editing, and interpersonal communication skills with a clear journalistic style.
- Excellent knowledge of AP style guidelines.
- Proven organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to efficiently organize and prioritize workload and processes to meet tight deadlines.
- Be a skilled editor capable of reworking others’ prose.
- Be a reporter/researcher who can locate needed links and other references on the internet.
- Be a creative and collaborative self-starter and team player who can develop positive relationships with superiors, peers, vendors, members, and the public.
- Be detail-oriented, with excellent grammar and spelling skills.
- Possess advanced critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated ability to understand health policy issues.
- Skills in using a CRM system and associated communications database technology.
Education and Experience:
- A high school diploma or GED is required; a bachelor’s degree is required; a master’s degree in public policy and/or public health is preferred.
- A minimum of five (5) years of prior work experience with a publication or a comparable position is required.
- Required previous experience includes the following:
- Demonstrated familiarity with health care policy issues is a must.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $48,000.00 - $52,000.00 per year
Expected hours: 16 – 20 per week
