Job Description

MSNBC Digital is hiring a newsletter producer to optimize and expand the organization's  newsletter portfolio. 

As a member of MSNBC's platforms team, the newsletter producer will be responsible for showcasing the network's most topical content, ensuring that it serves existing newsletter subscribers and finds new audiences. This person will work closely with MSNBC's editors, writers and hosts as they continue to shape MSNBC Digital.

The newsletter producer will support MSNBC's flagship newsletter, MSNBC Daily, as well as Deadline: Legal, a newsletter covering the Supreme Court and legal analysis, and future projects.

This role requires strong writing and editing skills who is very organized and detail-oriented. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working across teams and juggling a multitude of communication channels and the large volume of comms that come with Slack, email and Teams meetings. Excellent communication skills are a must and familiarity with newsletter building tools such as Sailthru are strongly preferred. 

The position is full time. Colleagues are primarily based in New York City but candidates from around the country will be considered. A minimum of two years' experience working for a news organization is required.

Responsibilities include:

  • Curate MSNBC's most topical and relevant articles and videos across newsletters 
  • Optimize MSNBC Daily, the network's flagship newsletter
  • Support existing newsletters and produce future offerings across the network's portfolio
  • Track and produce promotional requests for newsletters
  • Write eye-catching headlines and copy
  • A/B test subject lines 

Qualifications

Basic qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent and comparable work experience
  • Excellent communication skills: The ideal candidate feels comfortable giving feedback to peers and navigating the dynamics of a large newsroom.
  • Collaborative-mindset to work as part of multiple cross-functional teams.
  • Must be comfortable working in a hybrid work environment.
  • A broad knowledge of current affairs, including politics, race, social justice, international affairs, pop culture and sports.
  • Highly organized and can juggle daily, weekly, and long-term deadlines.

Desired qualifications:

  • Knowledge of industry best practices in content strategy and production.
  • Experience working within ESPs like Sailthru, Campaign Monitor or Mailchimp.
  • Some time working with data analytics tools, such as Parse.ly, Chalkbeat, Google Analytics, Sailthru, or DOMO.
