The Registered Nurse (RN) is a professional caregiver who assumes responsibility and accountability for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating care of patients. The staff RN utilizes the nursing process by use of technology, therapeutic intervention, evidence-based practice and coordination of care with other health team members.

Known as the leading heart hospital in Denver, Saint Joseph Hospital has performed countless heart surgeries and has had a strong TAVR (Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement) program since 2013. Our Cardiovascular Telemetry unit compassionately cares for a variety of medically complex cardiac patients. We always focus on putting our patients first, which is evident through our hourly rounding, bedside reports, and manageable nurse-to-patient ratios. We are proud to be an accredited Chest Pain Center, a Primary Stroke Center, and a private teaching hospital.
Are you a New Grad RN?
We believe in you and in fostering your nursing career by providing personalized training and development and offering innovative technologies. This 12-month residency program, starting, March 4, 2024, will include a combination of unit-based learning with a preceptor and classroom-based training and will help provide you with additional support as you begin your nursing career with us.
Various units are participating in this program, including: Cardiovascular Surgical, Float Pool, Medical Cardiology, Medicine North, Respiratory Institute/Oncology, Procedural Care. Shifts available will vary based on the unit needs. More information on the shifts and units available will be given during the interview process.
Please apply to be considered for the New Grad Nurse Residency program. You must have an active RN license prior to the start of the program but are welcomed to apply prior to obtaining your RN license.

Your day.
As a RN you need to know how to:
  • Recognize and address patients' psychological and physical needs
  • Foster continuity and quality of care with the best interest and well-being of patients and their families in mind
  • Assess a patients' medical status upon admission
  • Assist in developing individualized treatment plans
  • Comply with evaluation, treatment and documentation guidelines
  • Oversee care delivered by LPNs and/or CNAs

Your experience.
We hire people, not resumes. But we also expect excellence, which is why we require:
  • ASN / ADN from an accredited program with the ability to obtain your BSN from an accredited program within four (4) years of hire unless you possess a minimum of fifteen (15) years of proven continuous Registered Nurse experience in an acute care setting, required
  • Current Colorado RN license or compact license with the ability to obtain Colorado RN license, required
  • Current BLS certification endorsed by the American Heart Association or the ability to obtain within sixty (60) days of hire (with prior approval), required (ACLS/NRP/PALS as appropriate for unit or service)

Physical Requirements:
Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.- and -Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.- and -Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc.- and -Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.- and -Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items. Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms (full of equipment, power cords on the floor, etc).- and -May be expected to stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time.
