The Network Technician III ensures the MS Fiber’s systems are maintained and well-functioning in alignment with current best business practices. Is responsible for installing, modifying, and making repairs to the optical network environment including working with WDM technology/systems, DC Power Systems, and MPLS infrastructure.
This is a field intensive position that commonly requires travel within the state-wide network boundaries. This position demands a critical understanding of fiber optic principles and best practices.
JOB DIMENSIONS
Internal Responsibility – The Network Technician III works collaboratively across MS Fiber offices to support the technology needs of the business and ensures business continuity.
External Responsibility –The Network Technician III communicates and works closely with outside technical vendors regarding the installation, repair and maintenance of MS Fiber Network components.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
Works closely with MS Fiber Network Engineering to ensure network elements are installed and maintained. Provides support to MS Fiber Network Engineering for field related activities that require travel to remote sites.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education — High School diploma required. Bachelor’s degree in Computer Sciences/Information Technology preferred.
Experience — Minimum of five (5) years of experience in the Telecommunications/Broadband industry required.
Certification/License, etc - FOA/CFOT certification preferred. Must possess or be able to obtain a valid Mississippi Driver’s License. Must be eligible and remain insured as a driver by the Company’s group liability policy for the automotive fleet.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities — Knowledge of fiber optic transport/WDM systems required. Experience with DC power systems required. Knowledge of MPLS infrastructure preferred. Experience working with tools and hardware required. Ability to troubleshoot using OTDR equipment. Ability to occasionally lift and carry 50-75 pounds. Ability to sit for long periods of time. Ability to stand, walk, sit, bend, stoop, squat, push and/or pull. Possesses effective oral and written communications skills. Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
