Network Design and Support Engineer
Purpose: Overall end-to-end design, certification and of network devices and applications. This role includes virtualizating certain network functions like FW, LB, PE, P router, etc. Responsibility:
Subject matter expert within own discipline/specialty area and basic knowledge of other disciplines / specialty areas
Applies in-depth knowledge of discipline/specialty area standards and processes to work
Guided by project and work deadlines
Uses discretion to complete assignments, independently applying knowledge of technical practices and specialty area standards
Independently completes assignments and participates in projects of diverse scope
Supports technical initiatives normally as part of a larger project
Works on development of new technologies or maintenance of existing technologies
Contributes to milestone completion of projects
Cultivates good working relationships with peers
Skills:
Strong understanding of TCP/IP concepts
Must understand and design experience with Routing Protocols
o BGP
o OSPF
o LDP
o MPLS
Strong understanding of switching concepts
o VLANs
o HSRP/VRRP
Hands on experience with Cisco IOS and Juniper JunOS switching and routing hardware
Hands on experience with testing equipment such as Spirent or IXIA is required
Understanding of IPv6 and experience with IPv6 implementation
Server OS background is needed Linux
* Knowledge of virtualization technologies like VMWare, KVM, Openstack
Network troubleshooting skills
Good Documentation skills
Knowledge of creating deployment guides, methods and procedures and troubleshooting guides
Team player and ability to grasp high level instructions is very important

eCAM Standardized Role and responsibilities for Network Platforms Certification Engineer
Certify and plan the introduction of new MPLS/IP and Ethernet carrier grade Network Platforms and
technologies to evolve Telecommunicatio worldwide network infrastructure. Services supported include VPNs, internet
service, cloud networking, Ethernet/VPLS, mobility, television/cable, security services, and core network backbone
capabilities.
Develop, write, review, and execute rigorous, detailed test plans, to certify new network equipment and new
services/features for the network, and documents test results.
While focusing on testing new Telecommunication services and features, testing also covers performance and scale, and
inter-op testing with other vendor equipment and Telecommunication systems and tools. May also perform regression testing
and develop test automation tools.
Design the most complex of test environments, and to configure network equipment in a test lab environment
to certify the design; documents the configurations; and trains operations personnel on the configurations.
Partner with vendors to ensure their product quality meets Telecommunicatio criteria and to correct product defects.
Leads troubleshooting and identification of the root cause of the most complex problems, ranging from design
issues to vendor technology issues.
Partners with design engineers to modify designs and detailed router configurations when needed, and with
vendors to fix their defects.
Plans and leads First Field Application (FFA) activities to deploy equipment and network services and features.
Design, document and lab tests procedures and troubleshooting guides for inserting new IP and Ethernet
technology and/or upgrades into Telecommunicatio production network.
